For hundreds of years the lure for millions of people worldwide has been to come to America for the abundance of opportunity; to work and to enjoy a better life. In the 80’s corporate America decided to capitalize on this land of opportunity and the opportunity to exploit the cheap labor just south of the United States border for profitable business enterprises.

There was an opportunity for cheap labor in the agricultural fields across America; the garment industry had a need for tens of thousands of immigrant workers. As a nation we sought bargain price wage earners to cut our lawns and clean our houses, to care for our children, to haul our rubbish and to handle the undesirable jobs.

Over the past 25 years Americans have enjoyed the benefits of immigrants for cheap labor; now the Washington leadership, that has relaxed enforcement and has permitted over twelve million immigrants to establish residency in the United States, is now reversing direction because cheaper labor is now in abundance in Asia.

The issues with Mexican Americans are very similar to African Americans; for over 250 years African Americans were exploited as slave labor to help build a world economic power, when there was no further need for their labor, they were in the way and unwanted. African Americans were not welcomed in many American communities and today are not completely accepted in many areas of America.

During the election year of early 2006, members in Congress were attempting to label immigrants as felons; however the Three Strikes Laws across America has been designed to target most African Americans as potential criminals and creates a revolving door to take hundreds of thousand of African Americans out of society and to lock them behind bars. Very similar to the days of slavery, when families were divided, the Three Strikes Laws is incarcerating an entire race.

Today congress is attempting to issue over twelve million immigrants their pink slips, “Your labor is no longer needed.” These immigrants have been replaced by cheaper labor and cheaper goods to be found in Wal-Mart, Mervyns, Kohl’s, Circuit City, Best Buy, Ashley Furniture, Kia, Hyundai, Target Stores and thousand of outlets across America.

Washington is acting to protect the interest of corporate America, however what congress has permitted to occur for over 25 years has many ramifications; there are families that are now part of the American fabric, working with us, living with us and are now part of our society.

The majority of Americans have accepted these immigrants into our society, however this Democratic Republican Congress has decided that the congressional interest needs to make a shift to accommodate corporate America and a few that believe America has no place for immigrants, Blacks or poor Whites.

This Democratic, Republican Congress has created a social class condition in the United States that we must learn to live with and integrate into this society.

In the 50’s and 60’s a few Americans realized that segregation would not work and they had to accept change; congress must understand that any attempts to segregate 12 million immigrants will not work and now this nation must plan for change and learn how to live with our neighbors.
