I have listened to Don Imus before and the bile and vile spewed in his talk show does not leave as sickening a stench like Rush Limbaugh’s or Sean Hannity’s despicable verbose ‘pun and double entendre’ on-air. These two con-men host the number one and two radio talk shows in North America, with 13.5 and 12.5 million listeners respectively.
What Imus said is spoken by millions of white males in the privacy of their backyards and bar rooms day in day out — with impunity.
Same goes to hip-hop Rappers — Nelly, 50 Cent and co., but with a diametrically opposite ‘profit motive’ that maybe crude, sexist and in bad taste, but not evil.
So, is Gangsta Rap a bigger problem to Black America than the likes of Don Imus?
While Imus has used his radio show to insult the female student athletes of Rutgers University by making fun of the black race, gender and physical appearances [Quote: See video below], Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity spew racism, intolerance and distortion on a monstrous scale, on a daily basis. The venom spewed by these two trodgolytes makes Don Imus look saintly, so to speak.
Rush Limbaugh, “the big fat idiot” is disproportionately more racist and hateful than Don Imus, and Sean Hannity is a ferocious distortionist, a self-promoting hoodlum — a vicious and predatory version of the slick propagandist Bill O’Reilly and his Fox News “Much Spin-Zone.”
And, let’s not forget that the majority of listeners of Gangsta Rap are white teenagers and young adults.
The fact that some of them are children of right wing bigots heightens the dysfunctional state of race relations in these United States.
I do not condone the degradation of black women via hip-hop, and sometimes I do find Gangsta Rap very distasteful…. but I also think it is an expression of ‘Black Frustration,’ sometimes taken too far.
According to the 2007 National Urban League Equality Index™, glaring disparities continue to exist between black men and their white counterparts. The State of Black America 2007 reports on this challenge with a fresh and in-depth look at the current conditions affecting black males. In this compilation of specially commissioned essays, some of America’s finest thinkers present targeted and comprehensive recommendations designed to eliminate equality gaps and improve the lives of all black Americans.
Other than these inequalities, the other root cause of this problem is a misogynistic, ‘man-eat-man,’ society that America is — a society that endorses extortion, ‘exorbitant sexual freedom,’ and perpetuates it by worshipping money like no other people in the world. A culture that is controlled by big corporate media conglomerates.
Big media is behind the heavy marketing of ‘Gangsta Rap’ — indiscriminately pushing aside ‘non-Gangsta Rap,’ and therefore diluting diversity of content, effectively rendering clean and responsible Rap dead.
In the corporate scheme of things, a few token black ‘executives’ are recruited as owners of recording labels and to act as point men — to do the dirty work. Meanwhile the ‘real’ executives who are almost always white, sit their fat asses in anonymity, reaping huge profits.

Essentially, the ‘blaxploitation’ movies of the sixties and seventies have metamorphosed into Gangsta Rap. Unless we blacks do a one hundred and eighty degree turn — big media will continue to shamelessly and blatantly stereotype us — for profit.
I do not see things changing anytime soon, unfortunately — unless these giant media corporations are stringently regulated.
That said, I think right wing conservative talk radio is more dangerous to America than a relatively harmless rump shaking by a few women of color.
Racism is a ‘certified disease’ of right wing America — and twenty six million of them listen to Rush and Sean everyday. It is very unfortunate that too many whites are unwilling to acknowledge that many of them (whites) still harbor racist attitudes towards blacks and other minorities — feelings that are exploited for profit by Talk Radio and right wing TV demagogues, a dangerous breed of predatory agitators bent on fueling a resurgence of xenophobia in the United States.
As long as too much media power is still concentrated in white hands, we will continue to witness ‘blaxploitation’ in the form Gangsta Rap and racist extortionism by goons like Rush Limbaugh.
Blacks need a chunk of this big media with which to educate the masses on how to treat women. Just a few black leaders condemning one withered half-dead white man is not enough.
Meanwhile, other right wing small fish like Tom Tancredo are stroking the most rotten of them all — The “Confederate Natives” — against immigrants!
Sincerely, I don’t think rump-shaking comes close!
Don Imus is not about to change any time — he is just an old geezer, born and bred at a time when racial tensions were at peak level in America — teaching this old dog new tricks is a major proposition.
To emphasize this point, while watching and listening to various TV and radio shows, I have been thoroughly dismayed by how the white media elites have been dodging the issue of racism. Many have continued to stand by their man, Don Imus — repeatedly making reference to the fact that he has raised millions for cancer-stricken kids of “all races,” who stay at his ranch in New Mexico.
Hogwash! A bigot is a bigot … period!
… and when they get tired of circumventing the issue of racism, they conveniently switch to the topic(s) of vilifying Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and the obscenity of Gangsta Rap. Ruben Navarrette explains why nothing has been learned from this Imus flap.
I don’t particularly dislike Mr. Imus, for I have heard him fling his insults and ‘toilet jokes’ at right wingers too — for example, when he called the delusional Dick Cheney a “Pork Chop Butt,” or when he characterized soon to declare right-wing presidential contender (the king of right wing moral hypocrisy), Newt Gingrich, “a man who would eat road-kill.” — The I-Man was right on target!!!
There is a need to go after the younger and ‘bigger audienced’ race extortionists like Limbaugh, Hannity and co. — hard!
The demise of Imus marks the beginning of a trend…..hopefully. Meanwhile, look for the I-Man to re-surface in the near future — at the Fox News Channel, the home of “Fair and Balanced Garbage News.”
