Religion, be it Islam or Christianity, is always mis-used by a few idiots to impose their will on others. It happens all over the world, from the genocidal Janjaweed death militia in the Sudan killing Black Africans, to the Republican right-wing zealots in the United States, demonizing everything in their path — from homosexuals, to blacks, to immigrants, to women and other minorities. In the Middle East, Muslim extremists are killing fellow Muslims recklessly in the name of Allah, and in countries like Saudi Arabia women are denied basic rights — including being forced to wear a Headscarf, and not being allowed to drive.

“Sharia laws,” based on the Qur’an [holy book of Islam], hadith [sayings of Muhammad], and numerous other points of reference, is “disease” — a disease that now threatens to stretch all the way to northern Nigeria’s ancient Muslim city of Kano – dubbed by locals as “pleasure island.”

Kano State is among a dozen states in northern Nigeria practising Sharia law, despite initial strong opposition from the federal government, Christians and human rights groups.

Islam came to northern Nigeria over 700 years ago, and Sharia penal codes were enforced until it was outlawed in 1960.

Sharia has made a comeback — a few years ago, following the defeat of Nigeria’s military dictatorship, a resurgent Islamic movement backed the re-implementation of Sharia criminal law across 12 states in the predominantly Muslim north.

Instead of concentrating on eradicating the root causes of social problems like prostitution, adultery, drinking, smoking pot and so on, black African Muslims in Nigeria have resorted to totally barbaric sentences for “crimes” — death by stoning for “sexual offences,” including homosexuality, and it gets even more bizarre — petty thieves face “arm or ear amputations.”

Nigeria is Africa’s leading oil producer, yet more than half of its people live in poverty. Very few Nigerians, including those in oil-producing areas, have benefited from the oil wealth.

How about imposing Sharia on economic extortionists who have been looting the country’s coffers since it’s independence in 1960?

Sharia Law in Nigeria in the name of “moral values,” is on the same level of religious hypocrisy as practiced by the ReTHUGlicans in The United States.

Let’s not forget that Christianity was previously responsible for very similar, if not worse atrocities — ref: The Christian Crusades — a series of military conflicts of a religious character waged by Christians during 1095–1291 principally against Muslims, most of which were sanctioned by the Pope in the name of Christendom.

These “Crusades” continue today in much more subtle ways, using Religion as a point of reference. — discrimination of minorities in the United States, “frightened right-wingers,” gather often to keep the ‘Cradle of the Confederacy‘ safe from leprosy, pedophiles, Spanish and rampant godlessness, TV political pundits like extortionist Lou Dobbs — CNN’s Nazi Minister of Propaganda, the despicable THUGS in suits and skirts at FOX NEWS,…..and many others. [Dobbs and co. do not use Religion directly, but are heroes to bigots, skin heads, anti-immigrant racists and a miscellaneous "conflagration" of 'macaca morons']

All said, it is my opinion that half of this world’s problems would be solved if racists, terrorists, bigots, extortionists like George Bush, right-wing Republicans, stopped using Religion to step on other people.

My first name is “James” — a Christian name, and I have kept this name for many years out of respect for my parents, for they are “Good Christians,” or should I say “Good People,” otherwise I would have ditched the name many years ago — It sounds to me like a name of an “English Butler,” smells of imperialism — and by the way, I have not stepped into a church in 20 years…..and I am doing just fine.

To me, ALL Religion and Alcohol are the most toxic “legal chemicals” ever invented by man.
