South Africa has launched its answer to the international news channels BBC and CNN.

Run by South Africa’s public broadcaster, SABC News International says it wants to provide what it calls more positive coverage of Africa to counter tales of poverty and violence.

According to the SABC’s head of news and current affairs, Snuki Zikalala, the new channel will cover news from the continent in a progressive and sympathetic manner.

It will report on cultural and social developments and not shy away from scandals or corruption.

But media watchdogs say the news provider should be focusing on bolstering its editorial independence at home.

The organisation has recently come under intense criticism after it considered dropping a documentary about President Thabo Mbeki.

SABC has denied that such censorship takes place.

My Note: I am also tired of Western News reporting BIAS — Too many “‘TV Educated’ Americans” wrongly think that Africa is only about — Animals, War and Starving Children!.
