I’m a bad American.
I’m one of those bad Americans you’ve heard about if you watch Bill (Bully) O’Reilly on the Fox Right Wing Fanatic News Channel. Here are the reasons I’m a bad American.
I disagree with the president in a time of crisis. It’s a democracy and I disagree. Therefore I’m bad.
In a time of crisis. A crisis he (president) helped to create. There were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. That was a lie to get you to go along with it.
But it doesn’t stop me from being bad.
Unlike the Republican presidential candidates and Representative R-John Doolittle (under investigation in the Abramoff scandal). Unlike them, I served in the military as a buck private. Only John (Bombs Away) McCain has served.
None of these right wingers like O’Reilly have ever served. Why? Why did I serve?
Because I’m a bad American.
I’m a bad American because I expressed publicly my opposition to the president’s use of illegal wiretapping, use of torture or the right to torture in contravention of the Geneva Convention, and the holding of prisoners without charge or trial.
I’m opposed to the president and his cronies turning us into a Roman Empire. I’m a bad American.
I’m a bad American because I think it’s hypocritical for us to condemn Saddam Hussein for mass murder and then launch a punitive strike that results in anarchy and the deaths of 300,000 Iraqis.
I’m a bad American because I don’t like the climate of fear the right uses to try and amass power and support. Terrorism is a serious problem, but it’s not the end of the world and the world has always had terrorists, from the Barbary Pirates in 1810, to the Nazis, to whomever.
That doesn’t mean we should be lax. But I’m a real bad American because I think it’s wrong that some Republicans secretly hope for another 9-11 style attack so they can bolster their cause for an endless war in Iraq (Iraq didn’t do 9-11 and wasn’t allied with Al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda wasn’t in Iraq until we invaded).
I’m a bad American.
I’ve never been a Democrat. Not ever in my life. I’ve always been a conservative. But an old-fashioned conservative who believes in no wasteful needless wars and a tight fiscal budget. This Administration believes the opposite.
I’m a bad American.
I’m a bad American for other reasons too. I believe our flag is a glorious one, but I don’t wrap myself in it and accuse others who disagree with me of disloyalty, not like the Right does, and not like Joe McCarthy did in the 1950s.
I don’t sit in church every week either. I don’t claim to know God and you don’t because you don’t think like me.
I’m a bad American.
I’m a bad American because I would like to see our country work with the community of nations instead of lording it over them, insulting them because they don’t agree with us. Calling Europe ‘Old Europe’ like Dick (shotgun) Cheney does, or renaming French Fries Patriot Fries because we don’t like the French.
I’m opposed to America becoming the world’s policeman and always attacking poorer, smaller countries.
I’m a bad American.
But I never intended to be.
