Mr. Barack O’Bama
Somewhere in the Beltway
D.C., (I don’t know the zip code)

Dear Mr. Obama:

I regret to inform you, that you have no possibility of becoming president because you are of African American heritage. Or, to put it more bluntly. Because you are black.

Barack ObamaThis in no way detracts from the fact you are obviously more intelligent than any of the so-called leaders we now have. You opposed the Iraq War from the beginning, recognizing it for the disaster it is.

But you have several major obstacles that regrettably, cannot be overcome. The first is your Arabic sounding name. In a time of war, with Americans paranoid and accusing each other of disloyalty and ready to rename French Fries Patriot Fires because we don’t like the French because they don’t support the war. In this time of tension, to have such a name like your name or Mohommet Zam Boo Boo…will cost you thirty eight key elective states alone.

This is your parents’ fault. They should have named you John Wayne Butler.

The second major problem is your youthful appearance. You look too young. You look like an African American Jerry Lewis when he was with Dean (Martin). Hey lady!

Jerry LewisBarack ObamaThis is based of course on the assumption that the older you are, the smarter you are. President Bush has disproved this. But it doesn’t change your un-electability. The main reason you are hopeless is…I’m sorry to say, because you are black. White America is not ready to see a black man occupy the White House. You said recently, that you trust in the “inherent fairness” of the American people.

Boy! Are you wrong. Saying the American people are fair in this regard makes me doubt your judgment…..or sanity. How many years ago was it that blacks had to sit on the back of a bus? Fifty?

If you recall the last election, all the states between New York and California were colored red. These are the pro-Republican believe in God and whiteness states. Therefore, the only majority you might pick up is in Harlem.

I myself was raised in the subtle racism of the 1950s. We didn’t have a burning cross in our front yard. We thought of ourselves as fair. Yet, we didn’t want any African Americans to move in next door (would plunge property values). And we considered Bill Cosby on TV to be uppity because he wasn’t playing the part of a butler. This mind-set is rather ingrained and I have fought all my life against it.

In other words, I’m determined to be fair in spite of myself.

However. Regrettably. Based on the above, it is clear that your candidacy is just a sham and a case of, just going through the motions. America is still a racist country even though blacks made it onto TV in large numbers and in sports, which shut down the Civil Rights movement. It’s like, if you suddenly see yourself on TV, you get compliant. Or as they used to say a long time ago….you give the natives beads and it makes ‘em happy.

We can kidd ourselves that because you are running we are all fair. But we know the truth. I mean c’mon! Who are we foolin’ here? It would be a miracle if a woman became president….let alone a black man. Or an immigrant.

I guess, the fact that you are allowed to run this symbolic only no-substance campaign at all shows some progress. That alone for now will have to do.

Personally, I won’t vote for you. However, I wish you well, and as much success as would be appropriate for a person of your color.

Yours Truly
Hank (USA All the Way) Averageman
