Barack Obama Hopes To Be “Instrument of God” And Create “Kingdom of God”

“During a Sunday service at an evangelical church in Greenville, S.C., Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama told the crowd of nearly 4,000 that he hopes to be ‘instrument of God’ and asked for their prayers to help him do that. ‘I am confident that we can create a Kingdom right here on Earth,’ he also said.” — Quote from CNN’s Political Ticker blog

I support Sen. Barack Obama’s run for the presidency, but this news story troubles me deeply.

The constitutional doctrine of “separation of church and state” should preclude politicians from campaigning in churches, mosques and synagogues.

The presidential candidates, Republican and Democrat, campaign mostly in Christian churches, with a few synagogues thrown in for good measure. This sends a not too subtle message that they regard Christianity as the superior religion.

To be fair the candidates should make pit stops at the worship services of every religious belief. Better yet, they shouldn’t campaign in any church, synagogue or mosque.

Is there anyone who doesn’t agree that Jesus Christ would drive away moneylenders, thieves and politicians from every house of worship?

When I hear a politician say that he yearns to be an “instrument of God”, it sends chills down my spine. An “instrument” doesn’t mediate, think or contemplate, it’s an inanimate object that’s totally under the will of the person that’s holding it.

Instruments of God subordinate there will to the Almighty, and will do anything to please him, including crashing a plane into a skyscraper. I don’t want an instrument of God with his itchy hands near the nuclear trigger; I want a rational person as our commander-in-chief.

I’m also terrified when a candidate proclaims that he wants to “create a Kingdom right here on earth”. America is a democracy, not a Kingdom of God on earth. Whenever people attempt to create a Kingdom of God on earth they always end up creating hell on earth.

Recently Sen. Barack Obama removed his American flag pin from his lapel, explaining that he will instead express his patriotism by his words and actions.

My advice for Sen. Obama: Remove the religious rhetoric from your stump speeches — express your spirituality by endorsing programs that help the poor, uneducated and disenfranchised
