Born and trained in the Austrian empire, Sigmund Freud (d. 1939 suicide) became famous for his ideas of the Western mind.
It is geographically a feather on the western European bird. Tiny landlocked Austria is a former world power with ongoing influence.
Known currently for a strict immigration policy, the small former Holy Roman Empire seat has been an enclave of decisive European military, economic, cultural and political action.
It’s capital has been the scene of Soviet-American tensions for decades following the 1940s. Adolph Hitler’s influence since the phalanx of his high tech army, the National Socialists rolled into Vienna in seventy years ago isn’t diminished. Long before this, it was a front against the nearby Turkish who had taken over Vienna at a point. Companion to former foe Germany in the 1914 outbreak of war versus the US/British imperialists, the Austro Hungarians had world designs on Africa and Asia. In a consultative post it sat at the 1885 Berlin Conference to help divide colonial Africa and move capitalism into high gear.
Xenophobia bubbles at the society’s surface. Strident bureaucratic and police patrols of non German speakers who are not White is as regular as the clockwork gliding Wiener Linien transport system. Ordinary apple strudel and schnitzel eating citizens keep a lookout to aid the cops. Some may spin around hurriedly, seeing in the shadow of passerby a foreigner. By racist custom, Africans are refused, as they are in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Rome and Madrid, from entering nightclubs and cafes in this nation of 8 million. There is simple hatred directed against Africans, most of who are seeking asylum through government channels or living there without permission. People wandering in from wars the West denies to great lengths, Kosovars and those from the former Yugoslavia, too, are knocking at the EU doors of Vienna.
Women and girls locked into the human trafficking: Austria is a horror hub. They are passed along from Accra, Ghana or Lagos, Nigeria on one end. Diamond and gun harbor, Antwerp, Belgium and hashish nexus Amsterdam, the Netherlands are terminals. Ludicrous in it’s European hypocrisy, Vienna sends funds to Uganda. Still, Austria, the state known for historical foods like sausages and elaborate coffee and alcoholic drinks, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven is treated by Western culture lovers as a haven of sophistication.
The future of the country; it’s relative high standard of living, EU status and homebase for oil cartels and various capital and Western control of world resources, is at risk.
A dwindling birthrate among Whites, their high incidence of suicide, illness from drug and tobacco, dietary and other health difficulties bring unavoidable realities.
Names like Haider, Waldheim (two term UN Secretary General) and late 1960s Austrian immigrant to America US Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger (gargantuan California prison budget threatening education and medical funding) carry geopolitical weight.
A haunting fog cast over Vienna is not just skyrocketing oil barrel prices, panicking profit seekers everywhere.
Or only the fascists or a towering buildup of new generation Russian arms. Moscow never gave up it’s strategies just because US embassy guard Clayton Lonetree was caught trading Vienna secrets in 1987. It isn’t relegated to the showdown meetings and press conferences at International Atomic Energy Agency concerning Iran and northern Korea.
The shadow of truthful history reigns.
