Patrick Leahy To Hillary Clinton: Drop Out Of Race Now

Angry Hillary -Clic PIC For Larger ImageHave you ever hosted a party, where it’s past midnight, and every guest has left except for one? You’ve dimmed the lights, turned off the stereo, put away the food, taken the beer keg down to the basement, and started to wash the dishes — and your visitor remains planted on your sofa.

The only way to get rid of such a moocher is by politely but sternly asking him to leave. The stubborn interloper who refuses to leave reminds me a lot of Hillary Clinton. Sen. Barack Obama has an insurmountable lead in pledged delegates, and a significant lead in the popular vote, but Hillary refuses to accept reality. She won’t consider dropping out of the race even though the only thing she is accomplishing is weakening Obama for the general election.

Scores of pundits have publicly called for Hillary to quit the race, but she remains unfazed. But now a prominent senator has publicly called for Hillary to drop out of the presidential race.

“Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) today called on Hillary Rodham Clinton to drop out of the presidential race, saying there is no way the New York senator can wrest the nomination from her rival Barack Obama.

There is no way that Sen. Clinton is going to win enough delegates to get the nomination, ‘ Leahy, an Obama supporter, said in an interview with Vermont Public Radio this morning. ‘She ought to withdraw and she ought to be backing Sen. Obama.’” — Quotation from Johanna Neuman, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

If Hillary ran a clean campaign and refrained from engaging in the politics of personal destruction, there would be no calls for her to quit. If she simply laid out her platform and attacked McCain instead of Obama, it wouldn’t make a difference how long she stayed in the race.

But Clinton, far behind and desperate, has run one of the dirtiest campaigns in recent history. She is simply incapable of sticking to the issues and eschewing dirty tricks, and that’s why she must be pressured to quit.

For a fellow senator to urge Hillary to step down is quite a slap on the face, but unfortunately she must be repeatedly slapped before she comes to her senses.
