Post-Election Gossip and Palin The ‘Wasilla Hillbilly’

The Rumors: McCain aides were terrified of Palin’s lack of knowledge of international, national, and even basic civic issues. An angry aide characterized Palin’s shopping sprees as “Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast.

1. Palin once answered the hotel room door to greet two staffers while wearing nothing but a bathrobe.

2. Palin was pranked like a FOOL — by two canadian comedians – Ms. Palin appeared to believe that she was talking to President Nicolas Sarkozy of France, even though the prankster had a flamboyant French accent and spoke to her in a more personal way than would be protocol in such a call. At one point, he told Ms. Palin that she would make a good president some day. ‘Maybe in eight years,‘ she replied.

3. Palin didn’t know africa is a continent — She thought that Africa is a single country.

4. Palin was unfamiliar with the concept of ‘American exceptionalism.’

5. She didn’t know the names of the countries that comprised NAFTA.

6. She refused preparation help for her interview with Katie Couric and then blamed her staff, specifically Nicole Wallace, when the interview was rightly panned as a disaster.

7. Newsweek reports that Palin’s shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain’s top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One aide estimated that she spent “tens of thousands” more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband.

An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as “Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast,” and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.
