DAILY TELEGRAPH REPORTS: Sarah Palin daughter’s future mother-in-law seized in drug bust: The future mother-in-law of Sarah Palin’s pregnant daughter Bristol has been seized in a drugs bust, embarrassing the former Republican vice-presidential candidate days before she becomes a grandmother.

Sherry L Johnston, 42, the mother of Miss Palin’s self confessed “redneck” fiancée Levi Johnston, was arrested by Alaskan police on Friday at her home.

The revelation comes as a blow to Mrs Palin, whose recent vice-presidential campaign was strongly based on her conservative Christian BIGOT views.

Mrs Johnston was caught in an “undercover narcotics investigation“, but the sting did not only uncover evidence of drug possession, but also drug manufacturing or delivering.

She now faces six felony charges and has been released on bail of $5,000 (£3,335) — just days before her grandchild is expected to be born.

Mrs Palin’s family has proved both an inspiration to her supporters — and a political Achilles’ heel.

The Alaska governor won huge support for her decision to have a baby who was diagnosed with Downe’s syndrome before birth, and the down-to-earth nature of her family delighted some supporters.

But the revelation — days after she accepted the Republican party’s vice-presidential nomination — that her teenage daughter was pregnant sent shock waves through the party.
