Bangladesh with 150 million people has a density of population of over 1100 people per sq km. This poverty stricken country is poised to lose parts of its territory when sea level rises as a result of global warming, while its very population increases at an unsustainable rate. As the world food supply diminishes, the country couldn’t be expected to avert mass scale poverty in the next 50 years or so unless it puts a check on the growth of its population, especially among the underprivileged. Bangladesh, therefore, needs to institute an effective family planning on a priority basis.
Educating both men and women on the implications of their action or inaction on family matters would be the best way to achieve population stabilization in Bangladesh. To accomplish this, the main theme of family planning must be brought to the uneducated rural people in the most resourceful and creative ways. But the country lacks the necessary resources for such a massive undertaking. The international community, the NGOs, as well as expatriate Bangladeshis are morally obligated to come forward in innovative ways to help Bangladesh meet this great challenge
