From HuffPost User TRichards: It’s tough to be a right-winger these days. A black man in the White House! Wimpy negotiations have replaced manly first-strike invasions. Health care that you’ve worked so hard to get may also be available to that worthless guy down the street. The President no longer acts like your Dad — tough, assertive, and no nonsense. There seem to be a lot more of “them” than of “you.” When you go to a restaurant, even in the good part of town, there may be some minorities there — no longer content to stay with their own kind. It’s so hard. No wonder a sensitive soul like Beck is choking up. His world just doesn’t seem to be holding together.
From HuffPost User GaryNMaine: Reminds me of Jimmy Swaggart when he announced his trysts with prostitutes and the tears he shed while making the announcement. All the evangelicals were feeling sorry for the man until a week later he was caught doing prostitutes again. There is no sincerity from either of these characters.
From HuffPost User ShaggyCt: Simpler times, indeed. Let’s see. Segregation, political assassinations, the world teetering on the brink of imminent nuclear holocaust, race riots. Talk about rose-tinted glasses.
Glenda is a showman who has taken to heart the old idiom that “there’s a sucker born every minute.” No doubt he is laughing all the way to the bank at the gullibility of his ignorant followers, who fall hook, line and sinker for his populist drivel. It is junk food for the brain and like most of FOX’s content, is designed to appeal to the base instincts of the audience and trigger an emotional response. That’s the standard formula for Rupert Murdoch’s tabloid newspapers and TV networks all over the world, and he’s extremely good at it. The big difference is that in countries like the UK and Australia, where Murdoch has also cultivated Beck-like populism, it is treated as a joke—-much like the National Enquirer is in this country. But in the US, people actually take this intellectually vacuous drivel seriously. I think Beck’s success offers an extremely unedifying message about America. He is the Jerry Springer of political discourse.
Beck names Obama officials who “love” Mao, Castro, Che, Chavez, says “The enemy is not only in the gates, they’re inside the house“
