Republicans have put new obstacles in the path of Eric H. Holder Jr.’s quest to become attorney general, raising concerns that he would prosecute intelligence agents who engaged in potentially illegal interrogation techniques and have postponed consideration of his nomination.
Led by the ranking Republican on the committee, Sen. Arlen Specter (Pa.), GOP lawmakers also said they had more questions for Holder about whether he would favor prosecuting Bush administration officials for their involvement in warrantless wiretapping and harsh detainee interrogation practices. Cornyn said he would press for Holder to take a stand on the Military Commissions Act, which the Texas Republican described as providing interrogators with immunity from prosecution if they believed they were acting legally.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) pronounced himself “extremely disappointed” with the Holder delay, describing the nominee as one of Obama’s most critical national security appointments.

Holder, 58, is a former D.C. judge and U.S. attorney who won support from a bipartisan coalition of law enforcement groups and former Justice Department officials. But conservatives had singled out his nomination for special scrutiny because of the department’s role in counterterrorism efforts and in judicial appointments, and because of the “baggage Holder carries from the Rich pardon.”
The Justice Department was considered one of the most politicized federal agencies under the Bush administration, as the agency’s own inspector general concluded.
Specter said at a brief hearing that he was “reluctant to say or do anything which would delay the reorganization of the Department of Justice.” He added that he would pose additional questions to Holder at a private meeting scheduled for today, “with a view toward seeing him confirmed.”
Left-leaning interest groups including People for the American Way and the Alliance for Justice yesterday decried the delay and accused Republicans on the Judiciary Committee of “playing politics” and “grandstanding” with a vital appointment.
“The work of restoring the Department of Justice is too important to be derailed by petty partisan concerns,” said Nan Aron, president of the alliance. — [MORE]

Real reasons why Republicans fear the appointment of Eric Holder for top law enforcement position in the country.
1. As indicated above — He will prosecute the Bush administration, including Bush himself for numerous crimes against the people of America — notably, political corruption, torture and the other crimes of their recent years in power.
2. Over the years, the legal system has always tilted in favor of the white majority. The American legal system has largely failed blacks, sometimes in a very racist manner.
In an article titled: The Vendetta Against Black Men, Salim Muwakkil writes: “Despite the rise of Sen. Barack Obama, black men remain in the bull’s-eye of governmental repression and police brutality.”
The racism in — Slavery, Jim Crow, Racial Profiling, “Driving While Black,” Police “Shooting” Malpractices, Police Brutality, Immigrant Raids and Beatings …..you name it, … have all been effected and “transported” by biased, bigoted and racist people –”enforcing the law.”
Prime example: Picture this scenario – Police pull over a white man in Dallas for reckless driving and find 2 five-pound bags of powder cocaine in the passenger seat of his car. Now picture a different scenario. Police stop an 18-year-old black kid in Harlem and find 2 ounces of crack cocaine in his pocket. Both of the men go to trial and are convicted. Who gets the tougher sentence? — Under current federal law, the black kid with the tiny bit of crack cocaine goes to prison for a minimum of 10 years. While the white guy with 10 pounds of cocaine on him gets the legal equivalent of a slap on the wrist. That’s because you have to possess more than 11 pounds of powder cocaine (5,000 grams) to get the same mandatory minimum sentence as someone caught with just 2 ounces (50 grams) of crack cocaine. It’s not fair, but it’s the law. — [READ MORE]
The laundry list of injustices against black men, and for that matter other minorities, is endless, and there is a FEAR that a black Attorney General would “RETALIATE” …..for lack of a better word, by helping Obama ENSLAVE whites, as some of the least informed (and most blatantly racist) Republicans seem to think. More precisely, they fear that Holder will fix all the “bad laws” that dis-favor blacks, but which directly or indirectly favor whites.
Forget about what Eric Holder did while he worked for Clinton — that’s just a smokescreen!
The idea of a black president, and now a black Chief Law Enforcement Officer, may just be too much for the RepubliTHUGS to swallow! They need the “racist laws” to help them maintain their “way of life” — SEGREGATED from “dangerous” Blacks, and the “Damn Mexicans.”
