Notebooks of Leonardo Da Vinci

Posted on 09 April 2009                                                                                                             Bookmark and Share

In one of Mr. Da Vinci’s notebooks he mentions “enfin“. I had come across that word at the library and I returned to find Enfin by Aquinas circa 1270.

Honestly, I am over amazed that religion, especially my brand of religion, Catholic, has been able to maintain its strangle hold on generation after generation. I’m not an atheist only because I feel the need from time to time to give thanks for unexpected good fortune; nevertheless, one of my favorite communicators is a British guy named Pat Condell who is a devoted atheist. I hope all you open minded citizens of the world will listen to a few of Mr. Condell’s videos. I must also warn all you religious nuts, and you most definitely know who you are, to avoid these videos.

Sorry, I darted off course. I do that from time to time. It’s called a senior moment. Getting back to Enfin by Aquinas, I am both over amazed and over disappointed that nothing, religiously speaking, has changed in 739 long ass years.

Here’s a excerpt from Enfin by Aquinas:

Go ahead fools rub your hands together, grind your teeth, and get on your knees and pray to our Saints. We Langoliers have control of your treasury, your military, and your lives. And whenever it suits our purpose, we’ll use anarchy to make that little mind of yours come rushing to us to find ease and safety. It’s both sardonic and riotous to watch you file into the very buildings on Sunday, to learn about the plans we’ve made for managing you, throughout the week. Our Prince said that not only would you come bearing gifts, you’d give us your minds, bodies and souls to do with as we pleased. Even after years of understanding, I still find it thorny at times to look at you with compassion instead of scorn as you bow and kiss my hand after I have enjoyed your children as I pleased right under your dirty noses.

I don’t know if Steven King used Aquinas’ mention of the Langoliers or not, but I’ve just always referred to them as priests.

With warm regards,
Bob Miller

You Catholics aren’t the only ones with a stranglehold on generations. Lutherans are just about as bad as Catholics (after all, they did break away from the Catholic Church) when it comes to stuffing religion down its member’s throats constantly. I say this since I was brought up in the Lutheran church and now have no use for organized religion.

I enjoy listening to Pat Condell’s speeches on religion. He doesn’t mince words at all. I wonder if he’d do as well on other subjects.

As for a senior moment, we all have them. I laugh at mine, you should laugh at yours. Life is too short to take it too seriously.

I have my own words about religion, and those who push and shove it at the rest of us 24/7, but when I decided to post on PoliticalArticles.net, I promised me I’d try to match the owner of this blog and his staff’s professionalism. So here is a hero of mine expressing my thoughts without all the four letter words I usually use to make a point.

“All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.

“I do not mean by this declaration to condemn those who believe otherwise; they have the same right to their belief as I have to mine. But it is necessary to the happiness of man, that he be mentally faithful to himself. Infidelity does not consist in believing, or in disbelieving; it consists in professing to believe what he does not believe.

“It is impossible to calculate the moral mischief, if I may so express it, that mental lying has produced in society. When a man has so far corrupted and prostituted the chastity of his mind, as to subscribe his professional belief to things he does not believe, he has prepared himself for the commission of every other crime. He takes up the trade of a priest for the sake of gain, and in order to qualify himself for that trade, he begins with a perjury. Can we conceive any thing more destructive to morality than this?” – Thomas Paine

ahh!! Religion — My favorite topic!

Religion is a fairy tale for adults, a scam run by priests, ministers, rabbis, nuns, witch doctors, bishops and popes so that suckers will pay for their big houses, fine clothes and BMW’s. As scary as it might sound, you alone are responsible for what happens in your life, not some imaginary spook living in a paradise in the sky . . . not some evil goblin living underground in a fiery pit . . . You! — Ike Ridley

Dear Bob – If some people throw brick-bats at you, it’s only because they can sense your intelligence as you challenge their close-minded assertions. I read your comments with great interest, and I must also say, it would be hard to meet someone who has achieved what you have in your span of life.
