Columnist – John Sammon
How many remember Cindy Sheehan, the anti-Iraq-War mother activist whose son was killed in the war, and who camped out near George Bush’s Texas ranch in protest against the war? The memory of her is fading. Her son’s already has.
The American people, those who approved of it, led by the former president, murdered in cold blood a half million Iraqis and several thousand American soldiers, and now want to forget about it and just walk away.
I won’t let them.
Like Cindy Sheehan. If there’s only one person left with the courage and determination enough to pursue this to see that justice is done, the American people, if nothing else, should be reminded again and again what they did because they lacked the moral courage to stand up to a lying president and his henchmen.
Do the math. Half a million. Out of that figure, how many killed were terrorists? How many total fighters did Al-Qaeda and militants have in Iraq? The number is miniscule compared to the total. Al-Qaeda, which didn’t exist in Iraq before the invasion, may have a maximum worldwide membership of 20,000.
Thousands upon thousands of innocent people were killed for no other reason than the American people, mis-led by their president, went along with the idea of replacing a dictator who wasn’t compliant, and to plunder Iraq’s economy.
It wasn’t the moral issue that Iraq’s leader was a bad man that he was taken out. We’re on friendly terms with other (compliant) bad leaders around the world and have been for decades, a cornerstone of American foreign policy. We had been on friendly terms with Saddam Hussein. It’s not a good enough reason because a country’s leader is a bad man to invade and kill a half million of its citizens, most of whom had no choice where they were born and living at the time.
In the Nazi death camp of Auschwitz, just over a million people were killed because they were considered racial inferiors. In Iraq, half that number were killed for no other reason than the president needed to control Iraq’s oil and to get revenge on a convenient group of Moslems because we couldn’t catch the perpetrators of 9-11. Doing a regime change is the same exact reason why the Nazis invaded Yugoslavia (revenge after officers installed an anti-Nazi ruler).
‘War Criminal’ Dick Cheney and Daughter Liz Visited Auschwitz

What is the difference between the Nazis wanting to take over a country and eliminate its undesirables, and us doing it? Is it okay for us because it’s us? Done under the guise of a war? The half million we killed didn’t attack us. They didn’t do 9-11. That was a lie.
Iraq is an American war crime, an American genocide on the people of Iraq. The war was unnecessary.
Bush and Cheney remain unpunished, their crimes un-investigated. The thousands of Americans who gave support as accomplices to their crimes remain smug and happy with the viewpoint that every war America has ever fought was the right thing to do, no matter what. My country, right or wrong. Those who believe America because of its power is like the president, above the law, and thus the arbiter of life and death over the remainder of the world.
It also includes dysfunctional simpletons whose moronic philosophy is the belief that war is the answer to any problem, and militarists who never saw a war they didn’t like. One said to me, “kill them all and let God sort them out,” combining war and religion.
Half a million Iraqis dead.
Americans don’t care, except the very few like Cindy who opposed it or realized their soldier sons died for nothing. Nothing! Nothing good! Iraq was not a threat to the United States. The weapons of mass destruction it supposedly possessed were fictional.
It’s a humanitarian issue.
Cindy Sheehan had the courage to take on the mighty, the un-approachable, those above-the-law. Her stand brought threats and insults from those who wouldn’t accept the truth. But if nothing else, it was another Rosa Parks-style example of the impact a single person can have who has the courage enough to say, “stop!”
