NOTES: After their increased immigration to the US in the late 19th century, Italian Americans also became lynching targets, chiefly in the South, where they were recruited for laboring jobs. On March 14, 1891, eleven Italian Americans were lynched in New Orleans after a jury acquitted them in the murder of David Hennessy, an ethnic Irish New Orleans police chief.

The eleven were falsely accused of being associated with the Mafia. This incident was the largest mass lynching in U.S. history.

A total of twenty Italians were lynched in the 1890s. Although most lynchings of Italian Americans occurred in the South, Italians had not immigrated there in great numbers. Isolated lynchings of Italians also occurred in New York, Pennsylvania, and Colorado.

There is a heavy Italian American influence in Jersey shore, many who are virulently racist and anti-black, just as they have always been against their “darker-skinned” brothers and sisters in southern Italy. The cops are much worse.

When Silvio Berlusconi, Italy’s gaffe-prone Prime Minister called Barack Obama “suntanned,“……he was essentially living out the racism northern Italians have inflicted on southern Italians for years.

Mr. Berlusconi’s racism did not stop there:

After his return from the G20 summit in Pittsburgh, in 2009, Mr Berlusconi told a rally of conservative supporters that he was bringing greetings from someone in the United States. “What’s his name? Some tanned guy. Ah, Barack Obama,” he said. He then added: “You won’t believe it, but the two of them sun-bathe together, because the wife is also tanned.”

The southern Italians who migrated to the United States, especially in the New York-New Jersey area, in the early 1900′s, are “naturally” anti-black for “wanting” to escape the “curse of southern Italy,” so to speak.
