Appearing on CBS’ Face the Nation, Kyl said that he opposes allowing children of undocumented immigrants to be granted U.S. citizenship and wants Congress to hold hearings on the matter. That would repealing of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution — which was adopted on July 9, 1868 as one of the Reconstruction Amendments.
The 14th Amendment’s Citizenship Clause provides a broad definition of citizenship that overruled the decision in Dred Scott v. Sandford (1857), which held that blacks could not be citizens of the United States. [ READ MORE ]
