America has huge soccer potential, but will get nowhere with the “English long ball” — which is as archaic, outdated and superfluous as the British monarchy. “American soccer is unique. America is unique. We can and should learn from other soccer nations, but we should develop and play an American style. There is no question that there is a great deal to learn from other soccer-playing nations. We should, however, take these lessons and use them in the context of an American style.”
