Newsletters & FoodStamps: The Racist ‘Dog-Whistling’ of Newt Gingrich & Ron Paul in ‘Jim Crow’ South Carolina

“Today, gangs of young blacks bust into a bank lobby firing rounds at the ceiling.” “We don’t think a child of 13 should be held as responsible as a man of 23. That’s true for most people, but black males age 13 who have been raised on the streets and who have joined criminal gangs are as big, strong, tough, scary and culpable as any adult, and should be treated as such.” – GOP Presidential Candidate Ron Paul

The ‘White Crowd‘ at the recent South Carolina GOP debate lustily booed black debate panelist Juan Williams when he confronted shyster Newt Gingrich for calling Obama a “FoodStamp President.”

The majority of people who receive foodstamps are WHITE (59%) — a fact that Gingrich huddled over in order to racially smear black people for the purpose of enticing votes from racist whites in South Carolina. [ MORE ON FOOD-STAMP POLITICS ]

UNCLE-TOM ATTACK!

The Rev. ‘pork chop’ Jesse Lee Peterson, the super-conservative African American Republican who has campaigned vigorously against Kwanzaa (The Racist Holiday From Hell” he has called it), the Rev. Jesse Jackson Jr. and President Barack Obama, said he has a simple solution to black America’s employment woes: HARD PLANTATION LABOR.

“One of the things that I would do is take all black people back to the South and put them on the plantation so they would understand the ethic of working,” Peterson told The Huffington Post’s Black Voices on Tuesday afternoon. “I’m going to put them all on the plantation. They need a good hard education on what it is to work.”

Peterson made the remarks after he was asked to comment on Monday night’s sparring between moderator Juan Williams and Newt Gingrich, during the Republican presidential debate after Williams asked Gingrich whether he thought his recent statements suggesting a lack of work ethic among poor black kids could be viewed as insulting. Meanwhile, a brand new batch of Ron Paul newsletters raises questions for the libertarian Republican — as well as a host of embarrassing fresh passages to go along with such classics as “the coming race war” and “the federal-homosexual cover up on AIDS” from earlier reports, TalkingPointsMemo.com reports.

Ron Paul claims “probably ten sentences out of 10,000 pages” were objectionable in his long-published newsletter series, even as he denies having ever written the content in question (or even having seen most of it). But, as TPM has reported and a new collection of Ron Paul newsletters posted by The New Republic confirms, racism, homophobia, and fringe conspiracy theories seem more like the newsletters’ raison d’etre than a rare aberration. In fact, even short promotional letters for the publication name-checked many of the most toxic passages.

Once again, contempt for African Americans and warnings of a “race war” are central themes in the most recently released materials. One issue warned “every honest American should be armed” to prepare for the coming violence.

“Today, gangs of young blacks bust into a bank lobby firing rounds at the ceiling,” one issue read, continuing: “We don’t think a child of 13 should be held as responsible as a man of 23. That’s true for most people, but black males age 13 who have been raised on the streets and who have joined criminal gangs are as big, strong, tough, scary and culpable as any adult, and should be treated as such.” [ READ MORE ]

Islamophobe Newt Gingrich Explains His Criteria For a MUSLIM President: Reject Sharia

Why Newt Gingrich is Lying:
From USA Today

Gingrich has been making the charge about Obama and food stamps on the campaign trail since last spring, but it is not accurate. The number of Americans who use food stamps (now called SNAP, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) has increased from nearly 32 million in January 2008 to more than 46 million in October, the latest month for which figures are available. That’s a 45% increase.

The number of people who went on food stamps was slightly larger during the tenure of President George W. Bush: 14.7 million people during Bush’s two terms — a 63% increase — compared with 14.2 million people since Obama took office, according to Agriculture Department data obtained by FactCheck.org.

The number of people on food stamps has increased more rapidly since Obama became president. Part of the increase is because the 2009 stimulus law widened eligibility for adults without children; when the federal eligibility expired, almost all states continued the program, according to Factcheck.org.

The main reason for the increase in food stamp rolls is the recession, which began at the end of 2007, a year before Obama was elected, and sent the unemployment rate from 5% in December 2007 to a high of 10% in October 2009. It’s more accurate to say that the down economy put an additional 14 million people on food stamps rather than Obama.

Factcheck.org also points out that people may be less reluctant to sign up for SNAP: Participation among those with income low enough to qualify increased from 54% in 2002 to 74% in 2009.

Debate panelist Juan Williams asked Gingrich about whether his desire to “help poor people learn to get a job” is belittling because rates of poverty and unemployment are both disproportionately high among African Americans.

Not all poor people are unemployed. According to Census data from 2010, 34% of working-age people in poverty have jobs. Of those 10.7 million people, 2.6 million have full-time, year-round employment, according to the Working Poor Families Project, a research group.

Gingrich Employs Classic ‘I Have a Black Friend’ Excuse To Defend ‘FoodStamp Racism’; Fact-Checking ‘Flip-Flop Maestro’ Mitt Romney, a Syphilitic Liar!

Scary: What New Hampshire Progressive Voters Think of The 2012 GOP Field

That’s the classic — “I have black friends, so I am not a racist” excuse! Racists often use this scheme to justify their evil doings — and, it’s nothing new in Republican campaign discourse.

Race-Baiting has been a staple of the GOP’s Southern Strategy Playbook in the last 50 years. In the eighties, Ronald Reagan, the greatest PR swindle in American history, successfully embedded into “frightened” white minds the false notion of “black welfare queens.

In the eyes of many whites to date — black people are free-loading leeches feeding off the government coffers — paid for by white people.

Racial minorities in the U.S. have spent their lifetimes in a society that has traditionally valued whites over them. For hundreds of years whites have dominated almost all aspects of life in the United States — including the key ingredient that holds the institution of racism together — political power.

It therefore didn’t come as a surprise that when Obama broke the “political power streak” — and, for the first time, a non-white president accepted the oath of office — white America rapidly began to lose its grip.

About 12:01 on the afternoon of January 20, 2009, the white American brain finally went haywire in spectacular fashion.

Hello …Tea Party!

Old school Gingrich and Santorum still strongly believe that an all out racist campaign will win them the presidency. Unfortunately for these two troglodytes, America has changed significantly in the last fifty years. Yes, there are still many who are rabidly racist, but they represent a fast shrinking portion of the electorate — which in another 10 to 20 years — will be reduced to an insignificant bunch of old, dying — hungry howling hyenas.

The Rick Perry Hunting Camp Controversy: Is Perry Racist?

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

Niggerhead“On ‘Fox News Sunday,’ Herman Cain called the name of Perry’s Hunting ‘insensitive.’ Cain added that there ‘isn’t a more vile, negative word than the ‘N word’ and for him to leave it there as long as he did, before I hear that they finally painted over it, it’s just plain insensitive to a lot of black people in this country.’

According to the MiamiHerald.com, Perry’s campaign insisted that the Texas Governor quickly removed the term ‘Niggerhead‘ from the rock after the hunting camp’s name became known to his family. However, The Washington Post reports that a few visitors to Perry’s hunting camp remember seeing the term after the early 1980s, which is when the Texas Governor claims it was removed.” [ READ MORE ]

Herman Cain has uttered the understatement of the century, a hunting camp named “Niggerhead” isn’t merely “insensitive“, it’s abhorrent.

Rick Perry has a lot of splaining to do, this is a controversy than can drive the final nail in his presidential aspirations. Perry needs to hold a press conference to explain his failure to immediately remove the abominable sign.

If I bought or leased a hunting camp that had a huge rock with a racial slur painted on it, I would immediately paint over the words with black paint, blow up the rock, or have it delivered to someone, like Pat Buchanan, who would appreciate the monstrosity.

Rick Perry is acting like this incident is no big thing, and this speaks volumes about him. Perry needs to explain himself, or get out of the race.

‘Apartheid’ Board Complicit in Destroying Ethnic Studies

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

   By: Roberto Dr. Cintli Rodriguez
Roberto Dr. Cintli Rodriguez. Click to view larger picture. In a previous column, I used the term CULTURAL GENOCIDE to describe the attempt by the state of Arizona to criminalize and to eliminate the teaching of Ethnic Studies. The use of the term unnecessarily set off a firestorm across the Atlantic. Incidentally, the similar attempt to destroy native cultures in the Americas in a previous era was called: REDUCCION. The term may not have been controversial, but the dehumanizing practice certainly was.

Perhaps its time to set off another firestorm, a necessary one this time. This effort has now devolved into an attempt by an APARTHEID school governing board in Tucson, Arizona to eliminate Mexican American Studies via a thousand bureaucratic cuts. The use of the term Apartheid is not used lightly; it is what we are up against in this historic Indigenous city in our battle to defend Ethnic Studies.

No Mexicans, Dogs or NegroesAdmittedly, the term cannot be accurately used in relation to Arizona’s draconian anti-Mexican, anti-immigration-related and anti-Indigenous laws (racial profiling). Apartheid is a system of legalized discrimination by a minority upon a majority (South Africa’s former system of oppression). In Arizona, people of Mexican origin are still a minority, comprising approximately 30 percent of the state’s population, and growing. Because these laws have the same intent, it can perhaps more aptly be described as pre-apartheid.

The State’s effort to eliminate Ethnic Studies also qualifies as pre-apartheid, though the percentage of White students in Arizona schools is already less than 50 percent. The statewide Mexican American K-12 population is approximately 40 percent and growing daily. On the other hand, the term Apartheid is arguably accurate when describing the internal effort by the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) to degrade and essentially terminate its highly successful Mexican American Studies (MAS) program, especially considering the state’s political climate.

Rather than contest the constitutionality of HB 2281, TUSD’s board has elected to comply with the new anti-Ethnic Studies measure, which was signed on May 11, 2010, even though on that day, TUSD affirmed that the TUSD program was already in compliance (Supporters of the program locally are calling for a national day of convergence on Tucson May 11, 2011 in support of Ethnic Studies).

No Mexicans, Dogs or NegroesWhile this board should be contesting this law, instead it is rushing to what appears to be an effort to dismantle MAS-TUSD from within. The obvious question is: who is this board representing? For the record, the district superintendent is white, as are three members of the governing board. Two members are Mexican Americans. TUSD’s K-12 student body is close to 70% Mexican American and at least 75% students of color. TUSD’s K-6 is close to 80% Mexican American and growing. Unquestionably, the community that TUSD serves is not being adequately represented. At each meeting, while board members don’t always vote according to their race/ethnicity, it becomes more and more obvious; students, parents and community members (majority brown) are forced to literally beg the board for support. Like overlords, the board members “listen,” but never comment.

In the past few months, critics have resorted to voodoo statistics to claim that MAS is not in fact a successful program. Statistics recently released by TUSD’s statistician does in fact confirm that its MAS students district-wide do substantially better than students not enrolled in the program.

Playlist: Exposing Republican Anti-Immigrant, Anti-Hispanic Bigots

Playlist: Gov. Jan Brewer’s Apartheid Arizona

Despite this, the effort to dismantle the program continues. Recently, the superintendent has moved the program (and its directors) under a bureaucrat who is openly hostile to the besieged MAS program. It has next moved to designate MAS classes as unaccredited elective courses, which has the effect of dismantling the program. This move is imminent. Additionally, the state has ordered a curricular audit by a firm that specializes in turning around failing programs. MAS-TUSD graduates more than 90 percent of its students, this at a time when dropout rates nationwide for students of color range between 40-60 percent (The firm is not auditing any of the state’s many failing programs). On top of this, a financial audit has also been ordered by TUSD. To shut the nails on the coffin, the program’s highly acclaimed summer transformative educator’s conference — 12 years running — is now history.

No Mexicans, Dogs or NegroesDespite all these attacks, Mexican American Studies is not dead; the HB 2281 lawsuit against the state by 11 educators is moving forward. Also, the transformative conference will still be held this summer, with nationally and internationally acclaimed speakers, but independent of the TUSD. And the program continues to gather support; this past month, it received unanimous endorsements from the annual conferences of the National Association of Chicana and Chicano Studies and the National Association of Ethnic Studies.

Because the attempt to eliminate Tucson’s MAS program comes falsely wrapped as an effort to achieve Martin Luther King’s dream of achieving a color-blind society — in the state that was last to recognize the MLK holiday — people everywhere recognize the importance of defending this program. After 40+ years of harassment, the discipline will be defended in the desert. Yet people everywhere also understand that this isn’t simply a debasement of King’s dream or simply an attack against Ethnic Studies, but that it is an effort to destroy the very precept of education itself. If uncontested, what’s next? Women Studies? European Studies?

Once government is in the position to decide what is acceptable curriculum and what are acceptable books, then the right to a free and uncensored education will have been compromised. This is the true specter of BIG GOVERNMENT. In Tucson, it comes wrapped in APARTHEID.
