SLATE: Republicans have accused President Obama of attempting to indoctrinate American schoolchildren after it came out that a forthcoming speech included a line asking students to “write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president.” The White House claims that the speech is intended to stress “the importance of education” and to encourage students to persist and succeed in school. “As the father of four children, I am absolutely appalled that taxpayer dollars are being used to spread President Obama’s socialist ideology,” remarked Jim Greer, chairman of the Florida Republican Party. The language has since been revised to ask students “how they can achieve their short-term and long-term education goals.” The president will deliver the speech on Sept. 8, and as ABC White House correspondent Jake Tapper points out, schools can still choose whether they broadcast it. He then moved to the United States to take up the radical ’60s teachings of the Weather Underground’s Bill Ayers, while also organizing for ACORN, a subprime-lending, voter fraud-committing collective of affirmative-action welfare queens. …and there are millions of Republicans who believe this nonsense — even after Obama got elected — and BLACKS NEVER TOOK OVER THE COUNTRY TO PUNISH WHITES!!

As Media Matters for America has demonstrated time and again, Fox News’ Sean Hannity has been a prolific and influential purveyor of conservative misinformation.

But never has he so enthusiastically applied his talents for spreading misinformation as he did to the 2008 presidential race, focusing his energies primarily on President-elect Barack Obama. Day after day, Hannity devoted his two Fox News shows and his three-hour ABC Radio Networks program to “demonizing” the Democratic presidential candidates, starkly explaining in August: “That’s my job. … I led the ‘Stop Hillary Express.‘ By the way, now it’s the ‘Stop Obama Express.’ “Hannity’s “Stop Obama Express” promoted and embellished a vast array of misleading attacks and false claims about Obama.

Along the way, he uncritically adopted and promoted countless Republican talking points and played host to numerous credibility-challenged smear artists who painted Obama as a dangerous radical. When he was not going after Obama, Hannity attacked members of Obama’s family, as well as Sen. Hillary Clinton and other progressives, and denied all the while that he had unfairly attacked anyone.

Hannity’s attacks may have also influenced mainstream media coverage. ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos appeared on Hannity’s radio program on April 15, during which Hannity suggested to Stephanopoulos that he ask Obama at the Democratic presidential debate the following evening about his “association with Bill Ayers, the unrepentant terrorist from the Weather Underground.” Stephanopoulos assured Hannity that he was “taking notes right now.” Stephanopoulos then did ask Obama at the debate to “explain that relationship for the voters, and explain to Democrats why it won’t be a problem,” though he later denied that Hannity had exerted any influence on his questioning.

Editorial Reviews From Publishers Weekly: “Memory is a motherfucker,” begins 1960s-era political activist and Weather Underground member Ayers, who went underground with several comrades after their co-conspirators’ bomb accidentally exploded in 1970, destroying a Greenwich Village townhouse and killing some of the activists involved. Ayers (A Kind and Just Parent), now a Distinguished Professor of Education at the University of Illinois, grew up well-to-do, attended private schools and became politicized at the University of Michigan. He describes his spiraling New Left involvement as he became aware of what he casts as the injustice of U.S. involvement in Vietnam, inner-city race relations, and police brutality and battle tactics, especially in Chicago during demonstrations at the 1969 Democratic convention. The terrific first half of the memoir details 1950s and ’60s U.S. culture his own childhood, shaped by images of the atomic bomb and TV war movies; the influence of Bob Dylan, Mao and Che Guevara on American youth but the book really takes off once he goes underground. He and his colleagues invent identities (often using names such as Nat Turner or Emma Goldman), travel continuously and avoid the police and FBI as Nixon bombs Cambodia and My Lai is ravaged. Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn raised two children underground before turning themselves in in 1981, when most charges were dropped because of “extreme governmental misconduct” during the long search for the fugitives. Written without self-righteousness or apology, this memoir rings of hard-learned truth and integrity and is an important contribution to literature on 1960s culture and American radicalism. From Library Journal: “Memory is a motherfucker,” writes Ayers (A Kind and Just Parent). In the 1970s, he was a head of the radical Weathermen and one of America’s Ten Most Wanted, along with his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, but he is now a distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois in Chicago. His memoir is a breath of fresh air in this self-absorbed age. Ayers discusses his reservations about the use of violence to achieve an end to violence (reservations he held then as well), but he is unrepentant in believing that America was the aggressor against North Vietnam and that right-minded people have an obligation to resist unjust wars. The book is uneven in tone, alternating fluffy passages about the passage of time with straightforward narration of Ayers’s more than ten years on the lam. Robo calls are a very invasive approach to political campaigning, it’s equivalent to the approach that Jehovah’s Witnesses take to sharing their faith: Banging on your door and disturbing your family dinner.

Automated calls from political parties should be outlawed, they are a nuisance and they do nothing to enlighten voters about the issues.

John McCain is down in the polls, and out of desperation he is blanketing the battleground states with automated calls that portray Obama in the worst possible light.

Here’s the text of a typical John McCain robo call:

‘Hello. I’m calling for John McCain and the RNC because you need to know that Barack Obama has worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the U.S. capitol, the Pentagon, a judge’s home and killed Americans,’ the recorded message said. ‘And Democrats will enact an extreme leftist agenda if they take control of Washington. Barack Obama and his Democratic allies lack the judgment to lead our country.’

The call ends with the legally required disclosure, informing the listener that the call was paid for by McCain-Palin 2008 and the Republican National Committee.” — More Here

This robo call is replete with errors, lies and exaggerations. Barack Obama has never had a close working relationship with Bill Ayers, and we don’t need to hear McCain’s pack of lies. Ayers was a terrorist in his younger days, but today he is a respected college professor. Obama had the good judgement to oppose the invasion and occupation of Iraq from the start, McCain has marched in lockstep with Bush’s foreign policy.

When a Jehovah’s Witness disturbs the peace of my home, I quickly get rid of him. Every voter who is a victim of McCain’s robo calls should get even by voting for Obama.
