Christopher Hitchens on Sarah Palin: ‘A Disgraceful Opportunist and Moral Coward’

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

   Christopher Hitchens
Christopher HitchensHitchens on Palin:

“…. Everything she does is for effect, she’s, and is always deniable. She could switch back in a minute. At the moment she thinks her tea party crowd wants to hear this kind of thing so she’ll say that. She’s been out to say, ‘well, I don’t know but I think the President ought to produce his birth certificate. I’m not saying it isn’t a good question.

Then later, cause she’s got to go to the Gridiron dinner in Washington, and learn how to use a knife and fork and be taught by Fred Malek. She takes it back. She’s a disgraceful opportunist and a real moral coward.”

“…. At least Richard Nixon had the ill fortune to look like what he was: a haunted scoundrel and repressed psychopath. Whereas the usefulness of Sarah Palin to the right-wing party managers is that she combines a certain knowingness with a feigned innocence and a still-palpable blush of sex.

But she should take care to read her Alexander Pope: That bloom will soon enough fade, and it will fade really quickly if she uses it to prostitute herself to the Nixonites on one day and then to cock-tease the rabble on the next.”

About: Christopher Eric Hitchens — is a columnist and literary critic at Vanity Fair, Slate, The Atlantic, World Affairs, The Nation, Free Inquiry, and a variety of other media outlets. He is also the Roger S. Mertz media fellow at the Hoover Institution.

Hitchens is an English-American, born April 13, 1949. His books — the latest being God Is Not Great — have made him a prominent public intellectual, and a staple of talk shows and lecture circuits. He has been a columnist

As a political activist and observer, polemicist and self styled political radicalist, Hitchens rose to prominence as a fixture in the left-wing publications of both his native United Kingdom and United States. Hitchens’ departure from the political left began in 1989 after what he called the “tepid reaction” of the European left following Ayatollah Khomeini’s issue of a fatwa calling for the murder of Salman Rushdie. The September 11, 2001 attacks strengthened his embrace of an interventionist foreign policy, and his vociferous criticism of what he calls “fascism with an Islamic face.” Hitchens’ adoption of interventionist foreign policy, employment of the term “Islamofascist” and his notable support for the Iraq War have caused his critics to label him a “neoconservative.” Hitchens, however, refuses to embrace this designation, insisting, “I’m not any kind of conservative”.

Hitchens is often regarded as one of the most prominent exponents of modern atheism and is described as part of the “new atheism” movement. Hitchens and fellow atheists Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and Daniel Dennett have often been referred to as “The Four Horsemen.” He is a secular humanist and anti-theist, and describes himself as a believer in the philosophical values of the Age of Enlightenment. His main argument is that since the concept of God or a supreme being is a totalitarian belief that destroys individual freedom, free expression and scientific discovery should replace religion as a means of teaching ethics and defining human civilization.

Hitchens is known for his ardent admiration of George Orwell, Thomas Paine, and Thomas Jefferson, and also for his excoriating critiques of Mother Teresa, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Henry Kissinger, amongst others. These views, along with his argumentative and confrontational style of debate and writing, have gained him both praise and derision. The San Francisco Chronicle referred to Hitchens as a “gadfly with gusto.” In 2009 Hitchens was listed by Forbes magazine as one of the “25 most influential liberals in U.S. media.” The same article noted, though, that he would “likely be aghast to find himself on this list” because it demotes his self-styled radicalism to mere liberalism.

Retaining his British citizenship, Hitchens became a United States citizen on the steps of the Jefferson Memorial, on his fifty-eighth birthday, April 13, 2007, exactly 264 years after Jefferson’s own birth. In September 2008, he was made a media fellow at the Hoover Institution, and is currently writing his memoirs, entitled Hitch-22 Some Confessions and Contradictions: A Memoir, due for publication in the spring of 2010. He currently resides in Washington, D.C. [ MORE FROM WIKIPEDIA ]

‘Tea-Bagger’ Bible in The Works: Conservatives To Re-Write, ‘Bigotize’ The Bible

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The Bible Retranslation Project in Conservapedia, the right-wing version of Wikipedia, aims to re-write the Bible by removing what they call: Liberal Bias. They hope to “Bigotize” it (The Bible) with as much right-wing Assholery as is possible.

I wouldn’t care a rat’s ass if each conservative ate twenty Bibles and constipated on it!, for the bible is a dangerous DELUSION.

Eminent British biologist Richard Dawkins nails this FACT on the head, in his book “The God Delusion“. He contends that a supernatural creator almost certainly does not exist and that belief in a personal god qualifies as a delusion, which he defines as a persistent false belief held in the face of strong contradictory evidence.

He is sympathetic to Robert Pirsig’s observation in Lila that “when one person suffers from a delusion it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called religion.

Dawkins argues that Atheists can be happy, balanced, moral, and intellectually fulfilled, and that natural selection and similar scientific theories are superior to a “God hypothesis” — the illusion of intelligent design — in explaining the living world and the cosmos. He adds: “Children should not be labelled by their parents’ religion.” Terms like “Catholic child” or “Muslim child” should make people cringe, and Atheists should be proud, not apologetic, because atheism is evidence of a healthy, independent mind.

I concur!

Visit http://richarddawkins.net/ for more WISDOM, and buy the book — it is a great read!

Another great British political pugilist, Christopher Hitchens wrote a book, very complementary to Dawkins’ God Delusion, titled “God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything.” In his book Hitchens delivers the best of the recent rash of atheist manifestos. “Monotheistic religion is a plagiarism of a plagiarism of a hearsay of a hearsay, of an illusion of an illusion, extending all the way back to a fabrication of a few nonevents,” contends Hitchens.

Religion, Hitchens writes, is “violent, irrational, intolerant, allied to racism and tribalism and bigotry, invested in ignorance and hostile to free inquiry, contemptuous of women and coercive toward children.” Channeling the anti-supernatural spirits of other acolytes of the “new atheism,” Hitchens argues that religion is “man-made” and murderous, originating in fear and sustained by brute force. Like Richard Dawkins, he denounces the religious education of young people as child abuse. Like Sam Harris, he fires away at the Koran as well as the Bible. And like Daniel Dennett, he views faith as wish-fulfillment. [ READ MORE ]

There is ample evidence that the most CRIMINALLY MINDED, THIEVING, RACIST and BIGOTED brethren in America, and for that matter across the world — are into some kind of Religion.

Religion is a delusion that even my mother (who I love very much), and who is drunk with it — never was able to smother me with Christianity.

Like Dawkins and Hitchens — I reject Religion. Unbeknownst to me, I had already rejected all forms of religion by age five. Something was wrong then, and still is today, several decades later.

Religion is a fairy tale for adults, a scam run by priests, ministers, rabbis, mullahs, nuns, witch doctors, bishops and popes, so that suckers will pay for their big houses, fine clothes and BMW’s. Religion has been used from time immemorial to justify killing, to maim, to colonize, to ‘civilize‘, to TEA-BAG, by the KKK, by Pat Robertson and Creflo Dollar — To STEAL, by Islamic Jihadists to terrorize and by criminals like Bush to justify killing hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis, among numerous other Religion inspired crimes.

Yes, I condemn religion! [ READ MORE ]

Is the Clinton appointment Obama’s first big blunder?

Christopher Hitchens vs. Joan Walsh — On Clinton

In an article titled — “The Case Against Hillary Clinton,” Christopher Hitchens wonders: “Why on earth would Obama choose to put the Clinton family drama at the center of our politics again?”

I am wondering too!

It is rumored that Sen. John Kerry had campaigned hard for the post of secretary of state. Kerry, is not only more qualified than Clinton, but also, in 2004, he gave Obama such a huge dose of exposure, by making him the “keynote speaker” at the Democratic convention. The speech Obama gave won him the Chicago Senate seat, literally.

Barack Obama Speech at 2004 DNC Convention

Republican “maggot” Rush Limbaugh applauded Clinton’s appointment as “a brilliant stroke” by President-elect Barack Obama. So have many other prominent GOP recalcitrants.

Whenever a right-wing Republican applauds a Democrat, there is always something smelling fishy!

Hillary and Bill are “political prostitutes,” and I have an eerie feeling that these two will milk her secretaryship to the last drop — cruising world capitals, enriching themselves while pursuing their own political agenda.

I don’t see her lasting too long in the Obama cabinet. The Clintons are crooked!, although nowhere near the blatancy and crudeness of the Bush-Cheney Criminal “High Cabal”.

There will be a falling out somewhere along the line, and it will be an ugly mess.

Politico contributors, guests on CNN and MSNBC join chorus claiming Clinton will bring “drama” to sec. of state officeSince initial reporting that President-elect Barack Obama was considering naming Sen. Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, many in the media have raised the specter of personal and political “drama” — which they claim follows Hillary and Bill Clinton wherever they go — negatively affecting the Obama administration. The Chicago Tribune’s Clarence Page acknowledged that the media are hoping for “drama” resulting from a Clinton appointment; Page responded to the question of how Obama is “going to keep the drama at bay” by saying: “Well, do we want that? We’re journalists.

Meanwhile on Monday, Sarah Palin, The “Drilla From Wasilla” — still wearing “campaign clothes,” was busy rallying the BIGOT vote for Sen. Saxby Chambliss’ run-off election scheduled for Tuesday. Mr. Chambliss, the reprehensible Republican ‘chicken hawk‘ bigot, is likely to win this election tomorrow, after all, Georgia is largely, still a state drunk and groggy with confederate RACISM. The state of Georgia still has “lynching” laws in the books, including but not limited to gun laws meant to “Disarm the Negroes.” Laws which are not crime-prevention measures, but cleverly designed to perpetuate racism, oppression and white supremacy.

Bigot Vote Gathering For Saxby Chambliss -- Georgia

It will take a huge turnout of black voters to unseat this ReTHUGlican — to be precise, “Obama proportions.” Blacks make up just over 29 percent of registered voters in the state of Georgia, but, because Obama has not campaigned in person, for democrat Jim Martin, it is highly unlikely that the turnout of black voters will maatch that of November 4th.

America the Banana Republic

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The ongoing financial meltdown is just the latest example of a disturbing trend that threatens to put the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave on a par with Zimbabwe, Venezuela, and Equatorial Guinea. — Christopher Hitchens

Writes: Christopher Hitchens

What are the main principles of a banana republic?

A very salient one might be that it has a paper currency which is an international laughingstock: a definition that would immediately qualify today’s United States of America.

We may snicker at the thriller from Wasilla, who got her first passport only last year, yet millions of once well-traveled Americans are now forced to ask if they can afford even the simplest overseas trip when their folding money is apparently issued by the Boardwalk press of Atlantic City.

America the Banana Republic

But still, the chief principle of banana-ism is that of kleptocracy, whereby those in positions of influence use their time in office to maximize their own gains, always ensuring that any shortfall is made up by those unfortunates whose daily life involves earning money rather than making it.

At all costs, therefore, the one principle that must not operate is the principle of accountability. In fact, if possible, even the similar-sounding term (deriving from the same root) of accountancy must be jettisoned as well.

Just listen to Christopher Cox, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, as he explained how the legal guardians of fair and honest play had made those principles go away. On September 26, he announced that ‘the last six months have made it abundantly clear that voluntary regulation does not work.’ Now listen to how he enlarges on this somewhat lame statement.

It seems to him on reflection that ‘voluntary regulation’ … [ MORE ]
