Newt and Adolf’s Compliant Women

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

   Columnist – John Sammon
Columnist - John Sammon. Click to view larger picture. The response from Newt Gingrich to the question at the debate asking him if he asked his wife for an “open marriage,” in other words the right to cheat on her right under her nose with her permission, and the reaction of the crowd in South Carolina, was chilling if one is rational.

It was the roar of the mob.

It was also a standing ovation. The crowd might as well have been in the Sports Palace in Berlin in 1938 giving Nazi salutes. Newt went after a representative of the despised “Liberal Media.” The crowd of Southern, Ultra Right-Wing nut-jobs loved it, because they want hate, they want revenge. They didn’t listen to the candidate’s response soberly.

Instead, it was a shriek from the cave. Who ever said America is the land of the free?

CNN debate moderator John King asked Newt the question he has to ask as part of his job, because the personal character of the candidates’ private lives can be just as important as their job records. That is, once a figurative sleeping dog goes public like Newt’s ex-wife did.

You take that scrutiny on when you run for president.

If Obama’s wife publicly accused him of hitting her, it would become an issue.

Or does Newt think the press should favor him and ignore sexual affairs the way they used to do for John F. Kennedy? Bill Clinton and Gary Hart, both Democrats, suffered for their sexual peccadilloes. But that’s okay with conservatives. In fact, Newt himself personally supported charges of impeachment against Clinton for fooling around with an intern.

He sees no hypocrisy or double-standard in this.

When Newt called King’s question “disgusting,” his crowd of worshippers roared their approval. King might have felt he was about to be lynched. But he’s white.

Juan Williams, a conservative black commentator, was heckled by the mob in the same way and may have been more uneasy. He is black.

South Carolina after all is the state that fired the first shot in the Civil War, and where today the Confederate Stars and Bars flies at the State Capitol.

Both Newt and Adolf Hitler seem to have similar ideas about the role of women in their personal lives. Hitler rationalized that he was “too important” to marry any one woman, in this case Eva Braun, because he was instead symbolically married to the nation as a great man.

Newt told his wife that his mistress didn’t mind if he fooled around, so he obviously feels himself big and important enough to make himself available to any woman he chooses. Asking your wife for permission to cheat on her after taking vows in church to supposedly “love, honor and whatever,” for a candidate of the family-values-oriented Religious Right, is an interesting form of megalomania all its own.

Callista Gingrich

Newt’s way of dealing with it, saying he admitted mistakes, is unlike Herman Cain, who steadfastly denied any wrong doing until an army of flummoxed women came out of the woodwork.

That still doesn’t absolve Newt of the need to answer tough questions about his private life if they become character issues because of public disclosures (complaining wife). Is it fair for Herman to suffer and not Newt?

In newly deciphered vintage footage of a silent film where linguistic experts studied Hitler’s mouth movements so they can tell what he was saying, they show he is telling his long-suffering mistress (Braun tried to commit suicide twice) at his mountaintop retreat, “all you have to worry about is that dress you wear. What if you had my responsibilities?”

Good ploy Adolf. In other words, I’m too important for any one woman.

Newt likewise complained to his wife, “You want me all to yourself.”

Is that bad? Is that wrong?

Isn’t that what marriage is? Isn’t that what you promise when you get married? I wouldn’t expect my wife to agree to such a deal. Is there one set of rules for you Newt, and another for me? Are promises not important? They become lies if they’re not kept.

Newt like Hitler was is a supreme egoist. He’s also a hypocrite, always referring to his humble middle class roots. Hitler too thought himself a man of the people.

Newt, the little butter-ball man with the double chin has tried not quite successfully in recent months to portray himself as more reasonable, but naked hate is always just underneath the surface waiting to spring out.

His followers, themselves haters, love him for it.

Any man who cheats on his wife will likely cheat the voters. Any man who has the unmitigated gall to ask his wife for permission to cheat, when cheating behind her back would at least spare her feelings of humiliation, is a ruthless man. These skeletons remain private until somebody complains publicly, and then voters have a right to know the kind of person they are electing. What’s fair for Clinton, Gary Hart and Herman Cain is also fair for Newt.

If Newt had behaved in an honorable manner and had nothing to hide, he should be able to answer such questions calmly in a dignified way without going ballistic.

His followers should also act reasonable. Newt’s tirade was instead a Freudian type slip, a rare moment of candor that demonstrates his inability to handle personal crisis.

If Newt admitted it was a mistake, why can’t he calmly repeat so at the debate? Why can’t his followers act like sane people? Newt can’t answer in a manner that is not enraged because there is no way he can logically explain and justify it. So, he flies into a rage and whips his mob of supporters into a frenzy.

The courageous one was King. Thanks John. The guy who retains control of himself is the brave one. It says so in the Bible. I read it.

No Matter. Newt’s followers don’t care. He represents their most cherished fantasies, “I’m a tough, no-nonsense guy who puts liberal commentators and everybody else we don’t like in their place.”

Newt revealed his real old snarling, hating self.

Why are Republicans More Likely Than Democrats To Go To Church?

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

From CNN’s Jack Cafferty: Republicans Got God.

A new poll suggests they are much more likely to go to church than Democrats.

A Gallup Poll shows that 40% of Republicans say they attend church weekly.

Twenty-one percent say they attend nearly weekly or monthly, and 38% say they seldom or rarely go to church.

Compare that to only 27% of Democrats who say they go to church every week, 20% who say they go monthly and 52% of Democrats who say they seldom or never go to church.

These polls also show that Democrats are less religious than the average American, and Republicans are more religious.

Republican Hypocrites

Consider this: Almost one in five Democrats identify with no religious faith compared to only one in 10 Republicans who feel that way.

This might explain why religion often seems to play a more prominent role when it comes to Republican politicians, especially during primaries.

This time around in the GOP horse race for president:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry held a major prayer session in Houston before he announced his candidacy. Perry has also been known to pray for President Obama. In April, the Texas governor designated a three-day period as “days of prayer for rain” in his drought-stricken state.

Faith also plays a large role in Michele Bachmann’s candidacy. While giving an economic speech just Tuesday, Bachmann suggested the United States return to its Judeo-Christian roots to bring back economic responsibility, “Cry out to holy God. It’s not too late. He can save us.

As for Mitt Romney, it’s unclear yet what impact, if any, his Mormon faith will have on his candidacy.

Here’s my question to you: Why are Republicans more likely than Democrats to go to church?

———————————————————————————-
The following comments made it on air:
———————————————————————————-

Jim in Los Angeles:

Jack, The answer is obvious: Churches are wealthy, pay no taxes, shepherd the flocks to status quo positions, forgive bad behavior, take money for a ticket to heaven, and peddle superstition to raise fears. Now that is a ticket to warm a Republican’s heart.

B. in Fredericksburg, Virginia:

Some people live their faith in what they do and advocate, others put on a show. For the latter, “In God we trust” is both the national motto and their political platform.

S. in Florida:

Religion and GOP politics are both fear-based. Makes perfect sense.

M. on Facebook:

Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a mechanic.

Dave in Orlando:

For show. Sorry to be so cynical, but Republicans cannot possibly believe in a hereafter or a God and still advocate for, or do the things they do to their fellow citizens. They are just covering their bases by pretending to pray and believe in God. They think that their sins will be forgiven if they make big enough donations to the Church. And by wearing religion on their sleeves they expect to be fast tracked to heaven ? if there is one.

Tom on Facebook:

That’s an easy one, Jack. It’s the only way they have a prayer.

Tom:

The big draw would have to be the confessional.

Tim Pawlenty Afraid To Attack Weathervane Mitt Romney

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

JOHN KING: “You don’t want to address why you called Gov. Romney’s Obamneycare?”

TIM PAWLENTY: “I just cited President Obama’s own words that he looked to Massachusetts as a blueprint.”

KING: “Why is it not Obamneycare standing here with the governor right now?”

PAWLENTY: “President Obama is the person I quoted … Using the term ‘Obamneycare’ was a reflection of the president’s comments.”

In the first couple of debates of the Republican nomination process it’s all about introducing yourself to the electorate. The presidential hopefuls refrain from attacking each other, and aim their fire at President Obama.

But if you have a chance to deliver a knockout blow to one of your competitors, you take it. Romneycare is Mitt Romney’s Achilles’ Heel, the Republican faithful consider any form of national health care anathema.

Tim Pawlenty was handed a golden opportunity to hit the chameleon Mitt Romney right between the eyes, and he demurred. What a freakin’ wimp! Pawlenty is toast! Pawlenty is spineless, he’s a slice of white bread with the edges cut off.

Fox News and CNN are Providing Platform For Anti-Immigrant Racist-Extremists; Obama, Calderon Slam Racist AZ Law

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Fox News and CNN recently hosted Phil Kent of Americans for Immigration Control (AIC) and the American Immigration Control Foundation (AICF), groups that have ties to white nationalists and “sell … publications authored by racists and anti-immigrant figures who routinely demonize immigrants,” according to the Anti-Defamation League. Moreover, Kent himself has a history of inflammatory rhetoric, including asserting that Barack Obama is a “dangerous, anti-white multiculturalist.” [ READ MORE ]

Fox & Friends responded to President Obama’s statement that the Arizona immigration law “has the potential of being applied in a discriminatory fashion” by accusing Obama of maligning police officers. However, numerous law enforcement officers and legal experts have also expressed concerns that the law places officers in “an untenable position” where it’s “very difficult not to profile.

The O’Garbage Factor: The Fox Virus Has Corrupted ALL News in America

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

That Rupert Murdoch may tilt the news rightward more for commercial than ideological reasons is beside the point. What matters is the way that Fox’s model has invaded the bloodstream of the American media. By showing that ideologically distorted news can drive ratings, Ailes has provoked his rivals at CNN and MSNBC to develop a variety of populist and ideological takes on the news. In this way, Fox hasn’t just corrupted its own coverage. Its example has made all of cable news unpleasant and unreliable. For Murdoch, Ailes, and company, “fair and balanced” is a necessary lie. To admit that their coverage is slanted by design would violate the American understanding of the media’s role in democracy and our idea of what constitutes fair play. But it’s a demonstrable deceit that no longer deserves equal time.

The O’Garbage Factor: Fox News isn’t just bad. It’s un-American

   By: Jacob Weisberg
Jacob Weisberg. When White House Communications Director Anita Dunn charged the Fox News Channel with right-wing bias, Fox responded the way it always does. It denied the accusation with a straight face while proceeding to confirm it with its coverage.

Consider Fox’s Web story on the episode. It quotes five people. Two of them work for Fox. All of them assert that administration officials are either wrong in substance or politically foolish to criticize the network. No one is cited supporting Dunn’s criticisms or saying that it could make sense for Obama to challenge the network’s power. It’s a textbook example of a biased journalism.

If you were watching Fox News Channel, you saw the familiar roster of platinum pundettes and anchor androids reciting the same soundbites: this was Obama’s version of Nixon’s enemies list, the rest of the news media is in Obama’s corner, Obama should get back to governing, and so on. On The O’Reilly Factor, Alan Colmes, the network’s weak, battered house liberal, mumbled semi-agreement while “Doctor” Monica Crowley, Dick Morris and Bill O’Reilly lit up the scoreboard with these talking points.

Any news organization that took its responsibilities seriously would take pains to cover presidential criticism fairly. It would regard doing so as itself a test of integrity. At Fox, by contrast, complaints of unfairness prompt only hoots of derision and demands for “evidence” that, when presented, is brushed off and ignored.

There is no need to get bogged down in this phony debate, which itself constitutes an abuse of the fair-mindedness of the rest of the media. One glance at Fox’s Web site or five minutes’ random viewing of the channel at any hour of the day demonstrates its all-pervasive slant. The lefty documentary Outfoxed spent a lot of time mustering evidence that Fox managers order reporters to take the Republican side. But after 13 years under Roger Ailes, Fox employees skew news right as instinctively as fish swim.

Roger Ailes – A History of ‘Race Extortionism’

Rather than in any way maturing, Fox has in recent months become more boisterous and demagogic. Fox sponsored as much as it covered the anti-Obama “tea parties” this summer. Its “fact checking” about the president’s health-care proposal is provided by Karl Rove. And weepy Glenn Beck has begun to exhibit a Strangelovean concern about government invading our bloodstream by vaccinating people for swine flu. With this misinformation campaign, Fox stands to become the first network to actively try to kill its viewers.

What’s most distinctive about the American press is not its freedom but its century-old tradition of independence?that it serves the public interest rather than those of parties, persuasions, or pressure groups. Media independence is a 20th-century innovation that has never fully taken root in many other countries that do have a free press. The Australian-British-continental model of politicized media that Murdoch has applied at Fox is un-American, so much so that he has little choice but go on denying what he’s doing as he does it.

Whether the White House engages with Fox is a tactical political question. Whether we journalists continue to do so is an ethical one. By appearing on Fox, reporters validate its propaganda values and help to undermine the role of legitimate news organizations. Respectable journalists?I’m talking to you, Mara Liasson?should stop appearing on its programs. A boycott would make Ailes too happy, so let’s try just ignoring Fox, shall we? And no, I don’t want to come on The O’Reilly Factor to discuss it.
