MMFA: The release of yet another survey indicating the more you watch Fox News the less they know, has once again shone a spotlight on one of the unique features that defines Rupert Murdoch’s cable news outlet – it is very, very good at misinforming people. And it’s very bad at reporting the news.
It’s true that the most recent survey, conducted by Fairleigh Dickinson University, only polled adults in New Jersey and doesn’t represent national indictment against Fox. Nonetheless, the findings created a media stir because they reinforce what pollsters and academics previously discovered; that one of the country’s all-news channels consistently leaves viewers less informed.

By: Robert Greenwald The Rupert Murdoch NewsCorp scandal is a loud and overdue warning bell about what has long been Murdoch’s standard for professional ethics in journalism.
In 2004, I created Outfoxed to expose Rupert Murdoch’s war on journalism. Outfoxed examined how media empires, led by Murdoch’s Fox News, have long been running a “race to the bottom” in news delivery. The film provides an in-depth look at Fox News and the dangers of ever-enlarging corporations taking control of the public’s right to know. Through exploring Murdoch’s burgeoning media kingdom, the film examined the negative impact had on society when one person controls a broad swath of media. Clearly, the story didn’t end there.
We’ve moved far beyond only hearing from the canary in the coalmine. As we now see layer upon layer of corruption exposed, the full extent of the story remains unknown. News of the World is shuttered. BSkyB is temporarily no longer in play for full Murdoch takeover. There are questions about how deep and how complicated the corruption spreads. We know that the voicemail of a murdered thirteen-year-old was hacked. We know bribes were paid to police. We know that soldiers killed in action and their families were also targeted for illegal spying. And now US senators have moved to call for a Department of Justice investigation into whether American citizens were additionally targeted; including whether 9-11 victims too had their phones hacked.
As I follow the unfolding story, it reminds me not only of the warning call of Outfoxed, but also of Brave New Foundation’s latest project, an expose of the corruption and power of the Koch brothers. The conglomeration of too much power in the hands of ethic-less ideologues is a shared theme. When this happens in the world of journalism, and when this happens in the world of politics, the public inevitably pays the highest price.
A recent segment of Koch Brothers Exposed examined the intricate right-wing echo chamber the brothers fund in order to propagate policy lies into the mainstream debate. Unsurprisingly, Fox News was a key outlet through which they could accomplish this.
Such pooling of power and control has caused our political and journalistic institutions to lose integrity and to move away from the service they should provide to society. At what point do we say enough to such ideological conglomerate control of journalism and democracy? If the rash of stories this week isn’t enough for us to seriously reconsider the role of corporate control of our society, I don’t know what will be.
The ever-exposed corruption of Murdoch’s empire, along with the ever-exposed corruption the Kochs cause our democracy, can no longer run unchecked. With clear eyes we need to examine the power distribution such entities have, and what must be done to bring ethics and standards back into our public sphere. We need to do this now and with the seriousness a fight for the survival of democracy requires.

Koch groups have spent tens of millions to influence government policy ? from financing the Tea Parties, to funding junk academic studies, to undisclosed attack ads against Democrats, to groups promoting climate change denial, to a large network of state-based and national think tanks.
Charles Koch portrays himself as simply an ideological advocate, and says his money to political groups is only meant to “enhance true economic freedom.” He chides special interests that have “successfully lobbied for special favors,” claiming “crony capitalism is much easier than competing in an open market.”
But in reality, the focus of the Koch political machine is geared towards “crony capitalism” ? corrupting government to make Charles and his brother David Koch richer. Koch’s Tea Party libertarianism is actually a thin veneer for the company’s long running history of winning special deals from the government and manipulating the market to pad Koch profits.
Last night, a congregation of six angry, trembling, middle-aged white men and one bat-shit crazy woman gathered in New Hampshire to debate who will face Obama in 2012. Unlike debate 1 in 2007, when Obama was not the main subject, the seven Republican “hyenas” assailed the President with “rocks,” “dung” and “feces” — accusing him of everything that’s ailing America, including the moles in the their frothing bung-holes:

• Michele Bachmann said Obama “was wrong” in attacking Libya, and she said of his having “deferred leadership” to France, “that’s all we need to know.”
• Asked to name one thing Obama has done right on the economy, Ron Paul said: “That’s a tough question. … I can’t think of anything.”
•Mitt Romney: “Any one of the people on this stage would be a better president than President Obama. … This is the first time we’ve had a president that doesn’t have a foreign policy.”

Now, lets take a look at the GOP contenders:
The one I dislike most is the black one — Herman ‘Godfather’ Cain, a simple-mided bigot who the other day promised to discriminate against Muslims if elected president in 2012 (SEE VIDEO) and even after Obama produced his long-form birth certificate, Cain still insists that Obama was raised in Kenya, a ridiculous appeal to racist white voters — by a black man against black Obama.
One cannot be more despicable.

Michele Bachmann is a know-nothing batshit crazy mother of five, plus 23 more — foster children. One would be tempted to think of her as very benevolent — until you note that Minnesota pays $30 a day, tax free, per foster kid. So, if Bachmann has fostered these children, let’s say — for an average of five years, that would amount to a cool, non-taxable $1,259,250.
“No wonder she’s anti-abortion. Children are a cash crop for her,” says a reliable Wonkette source.
Bachmann is an evil tea-party terrorist, a deluded racist. In 2009 Bachmann said she feared that Obama will build “reeducation” camps to indoctrinate young people. In other words Obama is a NAZI. As for Mitt Romney, the “presumptive” GOP establishment nominee, Matt Latimer explains why Obama will trounce Mr. RomBOT should he be the Republican nominee:

Gingrich is also an unrepentant racist-islamophobe, a serial adulterer and the most formidable Republican “dung-thrower” in the last 20+ years. When they are on a crusade, like the ongoing stampede to defund “Planned Parenthood(a major reproductive health resource for poor women — who vote Democratic),” the blatant lies flow like a flooding Mississippi river.
They have also used the ongoing budget standoff to falsely suggest that Republicans want to end funding to Planned Parenthood because the federal funding is used to “provide abortions.” However, these reports have failed to note that Planned Parenthood does not and cannot use federal funds to pay for its clinics’ abortion services — [ READ MORE ]
