Republicans: J.D. Hayworth on Intimacy With a Horse!; Palin – A Wild Alaskan Ding-Bat?; Bachmann To Evade Taxes

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

TIP FOR THE IRS: At a rally over the weekend, Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Min., proposed that people should protest the health reform bill, if passed, by not paying their taxes.

Overheard: “I look forward to an honest debate with Governor Palin on the issues, in the unlikely event that she ever learns anything about them.” “…….[s]cientists are studying Sarah Palin’s travel between Alaska and Florida carefully. They hope to learn more about the flight patterns of that elusive migratory species, the wild Alaskan ding-bat.” — Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) after Sarah Palin directly asked his constituents to vote him out of Congress.

Meanwhile, Former Congressman J.D. Hayworth (R-Ariz.) is not backing off his claim that a six-and-a-half-year-old same-sex marriage ruling in Massachusetts could conceivably pave the way for men marrying horses. [ SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEOS ]

Virginia Thomas’s ‘Tea-Party’ Group: Some Comments From The Huffington Post

applescruff: I wonder what the right would feel about a spouse of a liberal Supreme Court Judge launching a pro abortion or pro gay marriage organization?

I can hear the accusations now.

I have also wondered how the right would have reacted if Michelle Obama had been a member of a U.S. secessionist group like St Sarah’s hubby, Todd? Can you imagine how quick that campaign would have been hobbled?

The Right is so blatantly hypocritical it now goes without much notice. They are like a dog that can’t be potty trained, finally the owners give up and just let them crap anywhere they want and ignore the stench.

Oh I forgot.

They already take our kids to slaughter for corporate wars for foreign resources.

Do you remember?

One of the talking points for invading Iraq was to make sure we had OIL and prices wouldn’t go through the roof. Bite the bullet; drink the Kool-Aid; weep at the degradation of democracy.

Anchorage Daily News — Alaska’s Largest Paper Endorses Obama

Tags: , , , , , ,

“Palin’s rise captivates us but nation needs a steady hand.” “Gov. Palin’s nomination clearly alters the landscape for Alaskans as we survey this race for the presidency — but it does not overwhelm all other judgment. The election, after all is said and done, is not about Sarah Palin, and our sober view is that her running mate, Sen. John McCain, is the wrong choice for president at this critical time for our nation.” — Anchorage Daily News

The Anchorage Daily News Endorsement Reads:

Alaska enters its 50th-anniversary year in the glow of an improbable and highly memorable event: the nomination of Gov. Sarah Palin as the Republican vice presidential candidate. For the first time ever, an Alaskan is making a serious bid for national office, and in doing so she brings broad attention and Barack Obamarecognition not only to herself, but also to the state she leads.

Alaska’s founders were optimistic people, but even the most farsighted might have been stretched to imagine this scenario. No matter the outcome in November, this election will mark a signal moment in the history of the 49th state. Many Alaskans are proud to see their governor, and their state, so prominent on the national stage.

Gov. Palin’s nomination clearly alters the landscape for Alaskans as we survey this race for the presidency — but it does not overwhelm all other judgment. The election, after all is said and done, is not about Sarah Palin, and our sober view is that her running mate, Sen. John McCain, is the wrong choice for president at this critical time for our nation.

Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee, brings far more promise to the office. In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand. The same cannot be said of Sen. McCain.

Since his early acknowledgement that economic policy is not his strong suit, Sen. McCain has stumbled and fumbled badly in dealing with the accelerating crisis as it emerged. He declared that “the fundamentals of our economy are strong” at 9 a.m. one day and by 11 a.m. was describing an economy in crisis. He is both a longtime advocate of less market regulation and a supporter of the huge taxpayer-funded Wall Street bailout. His behavior in this crisis — erratic is a kind description — shows him to be ill-equipped to lead the essential effort of reining in a runaway financial system and setting an anxious nation on course to economic recovery.

Sen. Obama warned regulators and the nation 19 months ago that the subprime lending crisis was a disaster in the making. Sen. McCain backed tighter rules for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, but didn’t do much to advance that legislation. Of the two candidates, Sen. Obama better understands the mortgage meltdown’s root causes and has the judgment and intelligence to shape a solution, as well as the leadership to rally the country behind it. It is easy to look at Sen. Obama and see a return to the smart, bipartisan economic policies of the last Democratic administration in Washington, which left the country with the momentum of growth and a budget surplus that President George Bush has squandered.

On the most important issue of the day, Sen. Obama is a clear choice.

McCain’s ‘COUNTRY LAST’ Choice: Sarah Palin is utterly unqualified to be Vice President

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

McCain says that he always puts country first. In this important case, that is simply not true. In these times, for John McCain to have chosen this person to be his running mate is fundamentally irresponsible. Two weeks ago I flew to Tokyo, crossing over the North Pole. Does that make me an expert on Santa Claus?…Fareed Zakaria, Editor – Newsweek International.

Will someone please put Sarah Palin out of her agony? Is it too much to ask that she come to realize that she wants, in that wonderful phrase in American politics, “to spend more time with her family“? Having stayed in purdah for weeks, she finally agreed to a third interview. CBS’s Katie Couric questioned her in her trademark sympathetic style. It didn’t help. When asked how living in the state closest to Russia gave her foreign-policy experience, Palin responded thus:

It’s very important when you consider even national-security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America. Where–where do they go? It’s Alaska. It’s just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to–to our state.

There is, of course, the sheer absurdity of the premise. Two weeks ago I flew to Tokyo, crossing over the North Pole. Does that make me an expert on Santa Claus? (Thanks, Jon Stewart.) But even beyond that, read the rest of her response. “It is from Alaska that we send out those …” What does this mean? This is not an isolated example. Palin has been given a set of talking points by campaign advisers, simple ideological mantras that she repeats and repeats as long as she can. (“We mustn’t blink.“) But if forced off those rehearsed lines, what she has to say is often, quite frankly, gibberish.

Couric asked her a smart question about the proposed $700 billion bailout of the American financial sector. It was designed to see if Palin understood that the problem in this crisis is that credit and liquidity in the financial system has dried up, and that that’s why, in the estimation of Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson and Fed chairman Ben Bernanke, the government needs to step in to buy up Wall Street’s most toxic liabilities. Here’s the entire exchange:

COURIC: Why isn’t it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families who are struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries; allow them to spend more and put more money into the economy instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?

PALIN: That’s why I say I, like every American I’m speaking with, were ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health-care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy, helping the–it’s got to be all about job creation, too, shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health-care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans. And trade, we’ve got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, scary thing. But one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today, we’ve got to look at that as more opportunity. All those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that.

CNN’s Jack Cafferty: Sarah Palin Is NOT Qualified

This is nonsense–a vapid emptying out of every catchphrase about economics that came into her head. Some commentators, like CNN’s Campbell Brown, have argued that it’s sexist to keep Sarah Palin under wraps, as if she were a delicate flower who might wilt under the bright lights of the modern media. But the more Palin talks, the more we see that it may not be sexism but common sense that’s causing the McCain campaign to treat her like a time bomb.

Can we now admit the obvious? Sarah Palin is utterly unqualified to be vice president. She is a feisty, charismatic politician who has done some good things in Alaska. But she has never spent a day thinking about any important national or international issue, and this is a hell of a time to start. The next administration is going to face a set of challenges unlike any in recent memory. There is an ongoing military operation in Iraq that still costs $10 billion a month, a war against the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan that is not going well and is not easily fixed. Iran, Russia and Venezuela present tough strategic challenges.

Domestically, the bailout and reform of the financial industry will take years and hundreds of billions of dollars. Health-care costs, unless curtailed, will bankrupt the federal government. Social Security, immigration, collapsing infrastructure and education are all going to get much worse if they are not handled soon.

And the American government is stretched to the limit. Between the Bush tax cuts, homeland-security needs, Iraq, Afghanistan and the bailout, the budget is looking bleak. Plus, within a few years, the retirement of the baby boomers begins with its massive and rising costs (in the trillions).

Obviously these are very serious challenges and constraints. In these times, for John McCain to have chosen this person to be his running mate is fundamentally irresponsible. McCain says that he always puts country first. In this important case, it is simply not true.

Sarah Palin – The ‘Insult Moose’

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

I am getting sick and tired of this shrill, sarcastic “female moose.” John McCain has packaged a big barrel of compost and strapped it around her neck, and she is machine-gunning the manure packed with deliberate deceit and distortions at the Obama campaign.

Wasilla, Sarah’s hometown was once the starting line for the Iditarod, a grueling dogsled race across 1150 miles of hazardous terrain. And as evidenced by the audience reaction at the Republican convention last Wednesday night, Sarah Palin is comfortable leading vicious packs of howling animals.

   McCain/Palin ShotGun Wedding
McCain/Palin ShotGun Wedding
   By Cagle Cartoons

McCain’s “Killer Moose” has been rampaging across America disparaging Obama as a lowly “Community Organizer,” totally oblivious of these facts:

• Obama has been a U.S. Senator (2005-present) — 3 Years

• Obama was an Illinois State Senator (1997-2004) — 7 Years

• Obama is a senior lecturer, University of Chicago Law School (1996-present) — 10+ Years

• Obama was a practicing CIVIL RIGHTS attorney (1993-96) — 3 Years

• Director, Developing Communities Project (1985-1988)(Community Organizer) — 3 Years

Even more important is the fact that Obama slayed the most potent political machine in the country — the Clintons, not by luck, but fair and square, and by the rules in place, with zero support from the Democratic establishment — a display of competence and superior organizational skills. Obama’s excellent grass roots experience as a “community organizer” enabled him to build the most awesome ground operation in the history of U.S. politics.

Pundits like to parrot incessantly how Hillary Clinton won 18 million votes — conveniently forgetting that Barack obama received 18 million primary votes too, and won more states.

Barack pulled it off because he ran a thoroughly professional campaign, surrounded himself with top of the line surrogates and displayed superior motivational and leadership skills.

On the other hand, Sarah Palin was picked from the wilderness of Alaska by a desperate McCain, and we have no clue as to how she could perform as vice-president — other than what she reads on behalf of McCain’s THUGS at town-hall and open-air meetings, and that she won a beauty contest. An associated press compilation gives evidence of — How Sarah Palin’s career stacks up to Democratic nominee Barack Obama’s

A female blog poster I bumped into sums it up this way: Sarah Palin is a joke, a token, and an insult“Look! Here’s a VP with a labia!” Fuck. That. We women are smarter than that. LOL!

Obama’s campaign responded: “The speech that Governor Palin gave was well delivered, but it was written by George Bush’s speech writer and sounds exactly like the same divisive, partisan attacks we’ve heard from George Bush for the last eight years. If Governor Palin and John McCain want to define “change” as voting with George Bush 90% of the time, that’s their choice, but we don’t think the American people are ready to take a 10% chance on change.”

Vice presidential nominee Joe Biden had this to say:

We know nothing about this woman. Absolutely nothing, yet pollsters are quick to cook-up stats claiming that she is ready, on the basis of a malicious speech written for McCain by George Bush’s cabal — afraid of the consequences of losing power.

Remember what Biden said recently:We will not be stopped from pursuing any criminal offence that’s occurred.” Members of Congress are “doing the right thing, they’re not making false accusations about anything … they’re collecting data, subpoenaing records, they’re building a file”, Biden said. “If there has been a basis upon which you can pursue someone for a criminal violation, they will be pursued — not out of vengeance, not out of retribution, out of the need to preserve the notion that no one, no attorney general, no president — no one is above the law.” …[ more ]

That’s enough to send the “shivers and quivers” up the spines of the Bush and Cheney criminal enterprise — a ruthless gang of looters who have seized every aspect of “America’s treasures” – political, cultural, financial, constitutional, militarial……you name it.

In the last eight years they have looted America mercilessly, and the sad thing is that roughly half of the electorate has no clue about what is going on. Their political education is limited to guns, abortion and kicking the asses of Muslims and immigrants all over the world. The fact that Bush has perverted, distorted and tarnished America’s image beyond repair — does not even feature fleetingly in their thinking. To them, GOD is on America’s side because George Bush “speaks directly to him.

Idiots!

They hear a speech by Sarah Palin and McCain (both puppets of this cabal) — and they go: “WOoOo AHH!,” …she is ready!

Nope! It’s a rip-off!

Last Thursday when McCain trumpeted:A Change is Gonna Come,” and vowed to put the country “back on the road to prosperity and peace,” ..he was lying through the “skin of his teeth,” and he knows it!

Bob Herbert of the New York Times knows that too:It stretches the mind almost to the breaking point to think of John McCain as an agent of substantive change. He once believed that Phil Gramm was the most qualified person in the United States to be president. And he now believes that Sarah Palin is the most qualified to be vice president.” “From the speakers’ faux populist gibberish, you would never have known that the Republicans have used their titanic power to lead the country to its present sorry state.” ….[ more here ]

One of the most devastating crimes that the “High Cabal” committed was the coup d’etat in the year 2000, with Florida state officials and the Supreme Court conspiring to foist an unelected George Bush on the American people.

Hail To The Thief!

Bush has done everything in his power to see that his corporate backers receive any and all assistance his administration can provide:

• Tax breaks for the obscenely wealthy

• Failure of governmental oversight for any and all regulations

• Non-prosecution for corporate crimes

• Appointment of insider foxes to guard the federal chicken coops: [ more here ] and [ here ]

These crimes must be prosecuted and stopped by the Obama team, if and when they assume the presidency — a task that seems to be getting more difficult, especially now that McCain has ditched his “Maverick” stance, and is officially the puppet of the “High Cabal,” complete with a “compost throwing” side-kick — Sarah Palin, the “Insult Moose.

Overheard:

Sarah Palin -- The Insult MooseAt a Barack Obama rally in Ohio, perhaps the most critical swing state of all:I think McCain is using it as a ploy to sway Hillary voters, but Palin is entirely against everything Hillary stands for, and I think women will find it offensive,” said Emily Miller, 25, of Toledo. “It will backfire.”

Debra Esthmeyer, 28, of New Knoxville, Ohio, said,I’m insulted, as a woman. If Sarah Palin were a man with her same credentials, there is no way John McCain would have picked her.” Palin’s “no Condoleezza Rice. She’s no Hillary Clinton,” Esthmeyer said. “She’s no Michelle Obama, either.

When McCain gets in trouble, he pulls out the P.O.W. card,…and now, the Sexist Card

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

Writes: Maureen Dowd

Hillary cried sexism to cover up her incompetent management of her campaign, and now Republicans have picked up that trick. But when you use sexism as an across-the-board shield for any legitimate question, you only hurt women. And that’s just another splash of reality.

Hillary Clinton Meets The Bad Guys

Unable to stop the onslaught of wild soap opera story lines erupting from the Palin family, the McCain campaign offered a new mantra: “Life happens.”

Since John McCain played craps first and sent the vetters to Alaska afterward, Republicans have been defending Governor Palin by saying that, while she has no foreign policy experience — except, as Cindy McCain pointed out, that “Alaska is the closest part of our continent to Russia” — she has a lot of domestic policy experience as a supercharged P.T.A. and hockey mom.

Even as they push Sarah Barricuda as the glamorous but tough hunting and fishing mom who can juggle it all — she’s the only nominee, as Fred Thompson bragged in his convention speech, “who knows how to properly field dress a moose” — they rant at reporters who wonder how she will juggle it all and question some of her judgments……[ more ]
