FactChecking the VP. Debate

Spin Baby Spin!

Sarah Palin Is The New George Bush

McCain Love/Hate Relationship With The Media

| More at FactCheck.org |

ABC News independently fact checked some of these claims and found both vice presidential wannabes were guilty of stretching the truth during the debate.

Bankruptcy Law

BIDEN: “We should be allowing bankruptcy courts to be able to readjust, not just the interest rate you are paying on your mortgage to be able to stay in your home, but in — be able to adjust the principal that you owe, the principal that that you owe. That would keep people in their homes; actually help banks by keeping them from going under. But John McCain, as I understand it — I’m not sure of this, but I believe John McCain and the governor don’t support that&.

GWEN IFILL: Gov. Palin, is that so?

PALIN: That is not so.

FACT: The Senate has voted only once this year on legislation that would change bankruptcy laws to help distressed homeowners. John McCain was absent for that vote. Contrary to what Palin says, the McCain campaign acknowledges that he does not support those changes to bankruptcy laws.

Palin on Troop Levels in Iraq

During an exchange on Iraq, Palin erroneously claimed the United States is down to presurge levels in Iraq. Palin said, “We have got to win Iraq. And with the surge that has worked we’re now down to presurge numbers in Iraq. That’s where we could be.” Palin is incorrect.

FACT: The Alaska governor is wrong because the number of troops on the ground is still higher and the number of combat brigades is the same as at the start of the surge in January 2007, according to Pentagon figures. Iraq troop levels before the surge were at 133,500. While U.S. troop levels in Iraq have been in the 142,000 range recently, today they are at around 150,000 because of an ongoing troop rotation.

Army General in Afghanistan

Palin misidentified Army Gen. David D. McKiernan, commander of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force, as “McClellan” several times during the debate.

At one point Palin said, “First, McClellan did not say definitively that the surge principles would not work in Afghanistan. Certain accounting for different conditions in that country and conditions are certainly different.”

FACT: The general commanding troops in Afghanistan is McKiernan.

Obama’s Statements About Meeting President of Iran

When Palin criticized Barack Obama for saying he would be willing to meet with the president of Iran, a nation with whom the United States does not currently have formal diplomatic relations, Biden reacted and said, “Can, can I clarify this? That’s just simply not true about Barack Obama. He did not say he’d sit down with [Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad.”

FACT: While the Illinois senator has clarified this statement several times with further explanation about the conditions that would have to be met before a presidential-level meeting, Biden is incorrect that Obama “did not say” it.

In September 2007, Obama responded to this question from a reporter: “You’ve said before that you’d meet with President Ahmadinejad. &. Would you still meet with him today?” Obama said:”Yeah, nothing’s changed with respect to my belief that strong countries and strong presidents talk to their enemies and talk to their adversaries.”

Obama’s Voting Record on Taxes

Palin argued that Obama has voted to increase taxes 94 times. Palin said, “Barack had 94 opportunities to side on the people’s side and reduce taxes and 94 times he voted to increase taxes or not support a tax reduction. Ninety-four times.”

FACT: That’s a wildly inflated number Palin threw out; the actual number is closer to half that.

But how about when Biden defended Obama against a different Palin tax allegation.

PALIN: “Barack Obama supported increasing taxes, as late as last year for families making only $42,000 a year.”

BIDEN: That charge is absolutely not true. Barack Obama did not vote to raise taxes. The vote she’s referring to — John McCain voted the same way.

FACT: On the tax increase that Palin referred to, McCain did not cast a vote. He was campaigning in Pennsylvania, but it was a fairly party line vote and McCain’s vote would not have made a difference.

Palin is a badly ‘Wounded Moose’

“Palin has spent almost her whole life in a very small town in a sparsely populated and extremely isolated state. For reasons that remain obscure, she attended five colleges in six years where, if her public performance to date is any indication, she seems to have learned nothing.” — Paul Campos, The Rocky Mountain News

I am not calling it for Obama yet, because I cannot gauge accurately the ferocity of McCain’s Stealth Weapon - The BIGOT Vote.

It is now pretty clear that Sarah Palin is unfit for the job of Vice-President. Palin and BidenShe is damaged goods.

The debate scheduled for tomorrow night will not vindicate her in anyway, no matter how much McCain’s ReTHUGlican handlers spin it.

There are no low or high debate expectations. Sarah is just a miserable mess.

Contrary to the “usually wrong” advice a cross-section of pundits have been dishing out in the air-waves, I think Joe Biden should zero in for the kill.

To hell with that sexism nonsense!

We are talking Alkaida, Osama Bin Laden and Putin here — there is no room for weakness, and if she wants to be a heartbeat away from the presidency of the United States, she must jump through ALL the hoops. She is not running for Miss Alaska!

Palin is a severely “Wounded Moose,” with broken arms and legs. All she can do now is stare hopelessly into the headlights beaming on her.

An old disease ridden 72 year old and a severely “Wounded Moose,” ….Oh please!

Sarah’s Greatest Hits

Top 10 Things Overheard At Sarah Palin’s Debate Camp

The gamble of selecting Palin in order to woo Clinton voters (which insulted scores of women), is going to prove to be the costliest blunder of McCain’s “Maverick Express” career.

Sarah Palin has become the bridge to the White House for Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

Paul Campos of The Rocky Mountain News Opinionates: “Palin has spent almost her whole life in a very small town in a sparsely populated and extremely isolated state. For reasons that remain obscure, she attended five colleges in six years where, if her public performance to date is any indication, she seems to have learned nothing.”

In typical capitalist fashion, everyone is milking “Sara-Mania” to the “Moose-Bones,” including an Ohio company that now offers the “Sarah-Cuda” hunting bow. Lakota Industries, the manufacturer, in a statement issued through their CEO Dick Williamson said:

“We are so pleased to introduce the “Sarah-Cuda” to the bow-hunting and archery community.” “In addition to honoring Ms. Palin’s historic achievement, we wanted to pay tribute to all the women who bear the responsibility of family and work while strengthening the moral fiber of society.”

Sorry Mr. Williamson, Sarah is a humongous political tragedy — worse than a sub-prime mortgage lent to a jobless home-owner wannabe.

Meanwhile, John McCain continued his insolent behavior last night on the Senate floor — “dissing” Obama as the Illinois senator tried to make nice with him:

Barack Obama approached John McCain on the senate floor — he walked over to where McCain was chatting with Republican Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida and Independent Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut. And he stretched out his arm and offered his hand to McCain. McCain shook it, but with a “go away” look that no one could miss. He tried his best not to even look at Obama. Finally, with a tight smile, McCain managed a greeting: “Good to see you.” — Reported Here.

Also, the post debate polls [TIME poll] are out, and Obama is rolling — he has opened a formidable 7-point lead over John McCain, reaching the 50% threshold among likely voters for the first time in the general campaign for President. Obama now leads McCain 50%-43% overall, up from 46%-41% before the parties’ conventions a month ago. Obama’s support is not just broader but sturdier; 23% of McCain supporters said they might change their mind, while only 15% of Obama’s said they could be persuaded to switch.

Among the poll’s most dramatic findings: McCain is losing female voters faster than Sarah Palin attracted them after the Republican National Convention. Obama leads McCain by 17 points with women, 55%-38%. Before the conventions, women preferred Obama by a margin of 10 points, 49%-39%. After McCain picked Palin as his running mate, the gap narrowed to a virtual tie, with Obama holding a 1-point margin, 48%-47%…..[READ MORE]

RealClearPolitics.com which averages all available polls concurs. Obama is also ahead in the critical Electoral Count.

The situation is getting bad for McCain, and the right-wing NUTBAGS, notably the Syphilitic Goons at Fox News who have been “moving mountains” to stop Obama. Short of uprooting their own teeth, these PROPAGANDA EXTORTIONISTS are “gnashing” at everything in their path, like starved “lactating Hyenas” in the wild.

They have attacked the beautiful “Obama Singing Kids.

….And Gwen Ifill, the moderator of tomorrow’s Vice Presidential debate. Also busy “working the referee” were McCain and Palin — sowing seeds doubts about Ifill.

The vicious former mayor of New York, Mr. 911, Rudy Giuliani joined them saying: “If the moderator of this debate were someone who was writing a book that basically was ‘The Age of McCain,’ I have a feeling that a lot more of these publications would be saying that the person should not be doing it,” said Giuliani. “Now it might be totally unfair to do that. Just as I think it’s totally unfair to do this. But it’s just one more indication of how there is a double-standard in the way this campaign is treated.”

“But on the basic question,” he continued, ‘Should Gwen Ifill do the debate?’ Yes, she should. But the question, ‘If you put the shoe on the other foot what kind of outcry would there be?’” — Read More Here.

Ms. Ifill is black, and is the managing editor of PBS’s Washington Week, and the senior correspondent for NewsHour with Jim Lehrer (Jim moderated the first Obama-McCain Debate)

O’Wino and O’Hannity — the two resident NAZIPiss-Throwers” at Fox News also attacked Gwen, claiming that she will not be impartial — because she has written a book entitled The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama, set to be released on Inauguration Day.

I don’t think Gwen is about to loose her impeccable journalistic integrity over a hopless case like Sarah Palin.

Shut Up O’Reilly!, …..I have never witnessed Ms. Ifill “FIX” news they way you do on a daily basis. She is exactly what you are not — a faultless and honorable newscaster with an un-impeachable character.

Bigotry ‘Impresario’ Don Imus Crosses The Line Again

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

John Donald Imus, Jr. Has a Long Record of Incendiary Remarks.

The latest:

On Monday, WABC anchor Warner Wolf read a report about footballer Adam “Packman” Jones dropping his nickname, “Pacman.” Wolf also mentioned that Jones had been arrested six times since he was drafted in 2005.

Imus then asked, “What color is he?”

“He’s African-American,” Wolf said.

“Well, there you go,” Imus said. “Now we know.”

Imus said through a spokesperson that he was misunderstood.

“I meant that he was being picked on because he’s black,” Imus said.

“I find the inference of [Imus'] remark disturbing because it plays into stereotypes,” said the Rev. Al Sharpton of the National Action Network, which was part of protests that led to Imus’ firing last year.

“I’m truly upset about the comments,” Jones said. “Obviously Mr. Imus has problems with African-Americans. I’m upset, and I hope the station he works for handles it accordingly. I will pray for him.”

Imus was fired last year for making racial comments about the Rutgers women’s basketball team.

Imus called the Rutgers University women’s basketball team “nappy-headed hos,” and for good measure the show’s executive producer, Bernard McGuirk, called the team “hard-core hos.” Later, former Imus sports announcer Sid Rosenberg, who was filling in for sportscaster Chris Carlin, said: “The more I look at Rutgers, they look exactly like the [National Basketball Association's] Toronto Raptors.”

Over the years Imus has made numerous racist slurs on TV and Radio — The long string of racial slurs and inflammatory comments is well documented by Media Matters …..[MORE]

He has also been accused of making offensive remarks off the air. Here are some examples:

1. In a 1984 interview, answering a question about Howard Stern, Don Imus said: “yes, Howard’s a slut too, Lloyd…Plus a Jew bastard, and should be castrated… put in an oven.”

2. Imus referred to African-American sports columnist Bill Rhoden as a “New York Times quota hire.

3. In 1993, Imus referred to PBS anchor Gwen Ifill, a black woman (then with the New York Times) as a “cleaning lady.

4. As reported by New York Times columnist Bob Herbert, in the course of a 1998 interview with Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes, Imus told a producer off-camera that McGuirk was hired to perform “nigger jokes.

5. Robin Quivers claimed that when she worked with Imus at WNBC, Imus called her a “nigger” to her face. Both Howard Stern and Quivers have also claimed that he screamed “Nigger, Nigger” at an African American secretary named Becky during their time at WNBC.

6. Imus has also repeatedly referred to Arabs as “ragheads.

7. He has berated many female newsreaders, including MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer, which caused her to leave Imus’s show. After she left the show, Imus went on a tirade, saying, “With that fat ass she’s got, she wouldn’t be one of ‘em,” [a news 'babe'.]. Imus said on the air, “That skank has to spend three hours with makeup in the morning.” The tirade was allegedly tied to comments overheard from Contessa’s calling Imus “a cantankerous old fool” at a 2005 dinner in a restaurant when she was still a newsreader.

8. During a show a producer also made fun of poet Maya Angelou.

9. On a December 15, 2004, show, Imus referred to publishers Simon & Schuster (under same ownership as CBS Radio) as “thieving Jews,” and later in the show issued a mock apology, saying the phrase was “redundant.” In October 1998, he described media critic Howard Kurtz as “that boner-nosed . . . beanie-wearing little Jew boy.

10. Imus’s show routines sometimes have contained derogatory epithets for homosexuals, including “faggot” or “lesbo” and various terms describing homosexuality.

11. Imus has also made fun of Irish, Jews, Italians, other nationalities and all political positions.

Don Imus is just but a speck in a huge crop of right wing extremists in America’s media — THUGS hiding behind TV and Radio, screaming and snorting their “Hate Rhetoric” like Hyenas in “extreme sexual heat,” fueling anti-immigrant xenophobia and the baseless hate of “Foreigners” and non-whites in America — Blacks, Latinos, Immigrants…you name it.

Media Matters for America has extensively documented, bigotry and hate speech targeting, among other characteristics, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and ethnicity continue to permeate the airwaves through personalities such as Glenn Beck, Neal Boortz, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Michael Savage, Michael Smerconish, John Gibson, Lou Dobbs, Sean Hannity, ….[MORE]

…and these bonehead “airwave” morons are not always white. Here is “The Honorable” Pastor James David Manning outlining the seven winners of the “National Bigot Award.” Message originally preached on 28 May 2008.
