There is ample evidence that Huckabee’s weight loss was a scam.

If Americans can throw out conventional thinking and a complete paradigm shift of seismic proportions and elect a black Man with a foreign sounding name, Ignore years of racial acrimony differences, stereotypes, Then we Africans have a lot to learn in regard to democracy, tolerance and peaceful co-existence.

l have just come to learn that true leaders are not made, but are indeed Born. You can have all the experience and the political pedigree, But at the end you cannot deliver no matter what. Certain men exude a certain confidence, integrity and the ability to lead and inspire “Hope” among there respective constituency’s, a good example are a well known cast of characters….

Winston Churchill, the WW2, British prime Minister who inspired hope, among Britons amid hopelessness and potential defeat by the Nazis, Ronald Reagan who won the cold war without firing a single missile, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King jnr who fought for civil rights and inspired American Blacks with his leadership…. Nelson Mandela who emerged from jail and united a racially divided south Africa after years of apartheid, our own Tom Mboya who inspired countless African trade unionists, and young politicians to fight the yoke of colonialism and exploitation only to fall to an assassins bullet…and now Obama.

Obama now has that rare chance to prove he can lead and inspire a whole generation of young people for a better and brighter future.

For us in Africa, it’s time to focus on the fight against well known suspects..Poverty ignorance and disease, tribalism, racism and corruption not necessarily in that order.

We need to invite and initiate open discussion and debate about the road ahead — invite the well known unwanted guest called DEMOCRACY and give him a chance, to prevail/build enviable institutions, and governments elected by the ballot not the bullet.

It’s about time to change the status quo and give our children and people hope for the future.

In an attempt to appease and mollify the Clintons, Sen. Barack Obama has practically handed over the control of the Democratic Convention to them. Hillary will have her roll call vote, and she and her husband will deliver prime time speeches.

The Clinton mafia has even secured language in the Democratic platform condemning the media for its “sexist” coverage of Hillary’s campaign. I know that only political junkies read the Democratic platform, but Obama should not have agreed to inserting such a blatant lie. Hillary lost because her campaign was a disorganized nest of snakes and sycophants, and not because of sexism in the media.

Clinton loyalists endlessly repeat that Obama must reach out to the 18 million who voted for Hillary during the primaries. Most of those 18 million are now solidly behind Obama; it’s only a few Hillary diehards who are still swooning over their queen.

These dead-enders are not blue-collar workers or the working poor, but middle-aged bitter women who saw Hillary as their last chance to see a woman in the White House before they croak. These dinosaur feminists don’t represent most women, or even most feminists. They are from the old school of feminism, and they are characterized by a hatred of men and a love for women. They wouldn’t consider voting for Obama unless he was castrated.

This cabal is willing to destroy the Democratic Party to demonstrate their inordinate affection for Hillary. The Hillary partisans have warned Obama not to choose a woman as his running mate, if it’s not their dearly beloved. This proves that there infatuation with Hillary takes preeminence over women’s rights.

Nothing short of naming Hillary as vice-president will satisfy them. Obama is set to announce his VP any day now, and I’m delighted that none of the speculation centers on Hillary.

The Democratic Party should be about hope and change, and not about a cult of personality. Obama has bent over backwards catering to Hillary and her surly husband. Stop the appeasement, Obama should write-off the Clinton die-hards once and for all.

Prof Noam Chomsky persuasively presents the case that American foreign policy and conduct is premised on, and driven by, a maniacal quest for global hegemony. This hegemonic pursuit is mostly, unrestrained by International law or ethic, and is driven by its own internal logic. It is driven by ideology (partly), but mostly by internal domestic corporate considerations. And corporations, whether in symbolic matters like iconography, or, the more substantive and pervasive ones, like military industrial complex, dominate social life.

Obama will be severely constrained within this context, if he manages to clinch the presidential quest. What then, are the likely implications to Africa of a black American presidency?

The Democratic Party nominee triumphed on a platform of change and hope. Within the US, this change agenda, though attractive, is superficial and limited. It does not attempt transformation of the ideological and basic structures and social relations. Though unprofound, it is not inelegant. It seeks to reduce, not reverse, the adversarial nature of politics that has divided the country into blue and red states, disempower the lobbying industry that throttles policy development into partisan interests and thus hindering search for consensus and pursuit of national interest; universal health provision and enhanced opportunity for education to minorities and large sections of society. The hope bit, represents all things to all people, and, thus simultaneously, both enticing, and, or, vacuous in policy content.

Common sense

It is a common sense agenda that should generate wide appeal, particularly coming after the neo-conservative nightmare, in the past decade. His agenda is not radical liberalism, but rather compassionate realism. It will reaffirm the American dream. If successful, it will moderate, not puncture racial stereotypes.

There will be no material reparations for slave trade, but it would provide immense psychological and moral relief to the descendants of slave owners, and, boost to the self-esteem of blacks (in the US, Latin America and Africa) and all disadvantaged groups, worldwide.
