Columnist - John Sammon. Click to view larger picture. This is ludicrous.

Insane.

Ridiculous.

Grotesque.

This is America.

Only the country that gave you American Idol would be capable of this.

The head general in the Afghanistan War went on Afghan TV to apologize to the Afghan people for killing innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire of the recent fighting. What does this be-medaled dolt think war is? It’s killing.

We killed half a million people in Iraq. Go on TV and say, gee, I’m sorry, as if a television apology makes it alright.

This is truly Beyond The Valley of Orwell. The ultimate extension of the TV generation into madness. I’m sorry we’re killing your people who are innocent of anything more than being in the wrong place, but you see we have to do it. Okay?

What is the Afghan citizen watching the TV set living in the abject poverty of his mud hut supposed to say back to the TV screen to the foreign general? I accept your apology, go on with the killing?

Using television to try and absolve yourself of complicity in violent death as the world’s mightiest superpower attempts to impose its will on one of the poorest regions of the earth? There is a fantastic quality to it, men who claim to be leaders going about this business heedless and without the involvement of mind-numbed American people, who are so spaced from reality they can’t even see the insanity of it all. Attempting to make war acceptable to a television audience in which members of that audience are some of the ones being victimized.

“We pause for station identification.” POW! BLAM! The roof caves in and buries you and your TV set. I’m sorry. You were in the way. What ever happened to the slogan “War is hell?”

I’ve got an idea. Why don’t we send text messages to the families of innocent people killed that say, I’m sorry your loved one got his head blown off. Then sign it, General Bullright.

It’s madness. Lunacy. The people running this country have syphilis of the brain. A nine-year open-ended war that will go on forever in which a conventional army with sophisticated weapons fights a ragged insurgency in which the bad guys don’t even have shoes on their feet. Can we win? Are we proud?

I know I know. They’re all evil and we’re all pure and righteous and blameless for whatever happens.

This is in actuality a first. Never before in recorded history has a general gone on television to ask the natives of a country with a much lower standard of living than the country the general represents, to understand and be patient with the general and his forces for destroying a part of that impoverished country. If it wasn’t tragic, this could be a comedy.

Conventional wisdom is that a conventional army captures and occupies territory (or a town) and installs a friendly regime. The insurgency, faced with an opponent with overwhelming superiority in firepower and weapons, disperses into remote areas and waits out the occupation while continuing hit-and-run attacks. Because the conventional army occupies ground and drives the other force off the battlefield, they (conventional army) claim victory, or progress maybe.

The insurgency simply moves off and takes up new positions and hunkers down to wait as they have through ten previous invasions going as far back as the Romans under Mark Anthony. If we capture one of their leaders, a new one steps up.
Perhaps we can go on TV and ask them to surrender.

YOU MORONS!

Why Dick Cheney Should Suffer Severely For a Prolonged Period of Time, Then DROP DEAD!

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Dick Cheney once predicted: “We will be greeted as liberators in Iraq.” At CPAC last weekend, he made another prediction: “I think that Barack Obama is going to be a one-term president.” “Let me be very clear,” the STUPID hoosier, Vice President Dan Quayle blustered back in ‘94, “Bill Clinton will be a one-term president.” I predict that EVIL-KILLER Cheney, will be severely crippled or dead by the time Obama wins a second term! So, before they start planning for the Romney inaugural bash, conservatives might want to pause and reflect on the Reagan and Clinton examples. They were both written off as one-termers and lived to tell about it. And Obama is now halfway to doing the same.

Why? He is responsible for the deaths and maiming of a million plus innocent Iraqis, and thousands of loyal, young American soldiers — men and women who volunteered to serve, while slippery LIAR Cheney got five deferments. Richard Bruce Cheney did everything humanly possible — short of fleeing to Canada — to avoid military conscription: He applied for and received 5 student deferments, a number described as “incredible” by professor David Curry of the University of Missouri in St. Louis.

It’s not fair!

Last night, this despicable draft dodger was admitted into hospital complaining of chest pains. Just chest pains Only? What about the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi women and children dead — because of Cheney orchestrated a war based on a blatant lie?

Oh, …..he is resting comfortable in a hospital! Asshole!

How comfortable are the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis maimed by the Cheney/Bush 500 pound bombs and the truck bombs planted by al-Qaeda terrorists — because of the LIES of Cheney, Bush and Cohorts?

I am not a member of al-Qaeda, neither am I a terrorist of any kind. I am just as appalled as many millions of law abiding, peace-loving citizens of the world, and I am compelled to say ……”death to the SCUM called Cheney.

And, I have no regrets.

Iraq Deaths EstimatorPersons who supported and perpetrated the illegal and criminal occupation of Iraq should be made to look at each and every picture available of the war dead, in order for them to experience the gravity of the atrocities committed in Iraq due to the Bush/Cheney Invasion.

Most Americans live in “video-game” land and have never known the destruction of war. They are shielded and protected from the bloody truth — lied to and cajoled by criminal politicians — more interested in lining their pockets with war-profits!

The number of Iraqi dead is shocking and sobering. Some estimates go up to 1.4 million+ ….

It is at least 10 times greater than most estimates cited in the US media,….and this devastating human toll demands greater recognition. It eclipses the Rwandan genocide and Cheney, Bush, and cohorts are directly responsible — retired in the comfort of their million dollar mansions, oblivious of the lives and families they have destroyed.

The Decade of Fraud, Fear, Hate and Permanent War

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

   By: Roberto Dr. Cintli Rodriguez
Roberto Dr. Cintli Rodriguez. Click to view larger picture. It has been said that the march of history, particularly in the realm of human rights, is always forward. Embedded within this concept is the idea that despite tragedies and war, the human condition always progresses. Unquestionably, whoever created the expression did so long before our just completed decade.

The decade began with arguably the first fraudulent presidential election in the history of the United States. Rather than a clear and decisive victory for Bush-Cheney, it was a Reagan-Bush hand-picked Supreme Court that intervened to give us two candidates who had received less votes than their opponents in a hotly disputed election.

Upon being sworn into office, these two grabbed the reigns of power and began to govern as though the U.S. electorate had granted them a unanimous mandate. From there it went straight downhill.

Bush-Cheney pompously began to govern where Reagan-Bush had left off; all power to the corporate sector and all power to the military-industrial complex. Not that Clinton had been a moral beacon or a champion of the poor, but Bush-Cheney ensured that every aspect of government came to be placed at the service of the corporate sector.

Then came 9-11. And what could have been a moment that could have united all of humanity, the Bush-Cheney administration turned it into an opportunity to divide the world up into good vs. evil and to consolidate the power of the United States on a global scale. 9-11 virtually became a war marketing opportunity. It also ushered in the birth of “The Homeland.

9-11 became a clarion call for a fanatical crusade against Arabs/Muslims and a call for a permanent worldwide war: God Bless America. With it also came a moral demand for the speeding up of Big Brother Society with nonsensical mantras such as: “The U.S. Constitution is not a suicide pact” and “the Geneva Conventions are now ‘quaint’ and obsolete.”

God had bequeathed to the United States its own special set of laws that Americans could obey or disobey at the discretion of their God-inspired leader. That’s why the Bush-Cheney administration worked feverishly to ensure that Americans [soldiers and/or mercenaries] were not subject to the International Criminal Court of Justice.

It became a license to kill without accountability and a rationale for dehumanization: Where had we heard that before? New arguments were contrived that not all human beings were entitled to life or to the full protection of the law, especially if we were at war. Thus, the notion of permanent worldwide war was conceived. And thus, the Bush-Cheney administration abrogated unto themselves the rogue notion that in carrying out this war, the U.S. now had permission to ignore, interpret as it saw fit, or create new laws, permanently.

In war, no trials are necessary. The only rationale necessary is that a legitimate target has been targeted. Whether it is actually hit is irrelevant and dead civilians are but collateral damage. In this scenario, drone technology became the weapon of choice with no fingerprints and no accountability.

Enter hate. The climate was created that those that were to be receiving our bombs were different than us. Brown people became the enemy… with turbans. Brown people became the enemy in Afghanistan and then at home. And it didn’t matter what kind of brown people. They became both the enemy and the convenient scapegoat. Enter the era of Lou Dobbs and Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Enter the era of closed borders and closed minds.

As long as the enemy is “not us” – the loss of rights became acceptable. And to facilitate this era, it became necessary to stoke fear, periodically. Enter color codes. Or was it simply a return to America’s old-fashioned color codes? Enter a cheerleading media and the end of its governmental watchdog function. All Americans were subjected to loss of privacy and freedoms, but by then, it was already too late.

Then came the Iraq War.

No weapons of mass destruction were ever found, but the [true] reasons for war – and the laws governing war – became irrelevant. The stage had already been set; Iraq was simply the latest enemy and their leader the embodiment of evil. And the mainstream media again stepped forward or jumped: “How can we help?

Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have lost their lives; many more hundreds of thousands have been maimed while millions have been displaced and through all this, Americans yawn. Less than 5,000 Americans dead and only 30,000 Americans wounded has not been quite enough to bother the American conscience.

Even when the Democrats took back control of Congress in 2006, impeachment for prosecuting a clearly illegal war became “off the table” and ending the war was also declared out of the question.

When Barack Obama became President Barack Obama, everything was to change. But “Supporting the troops” became the circular and continuing argument for continuing the Iraq war. And the change we could believe in and Yes We Can began to rhyme with Afghani-stan… the sequel. And Paki-stan.

That was the lost decade when permanent war became Nobel. That is how America lost its mythical conscience. And the decade ended with explosives in the underwear of a Nigerian man; a jarring reminder that our permanent war is here to stay. And now, Yemen also rhymes with Yes We Can? Now too, we also know that Big Brother is also never going to go away. It really wasn’t government; it was the people who gave this decade away.

Fight Afghanistan in Shifts

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

   Columnist – John Sammon
Columnist - John Sammon. Click to view larger picture.Personally, I think it’s hopeless, though our military leaders use vague terms like we’re making “progress,” we need to “turn it around”—what that is we never know because with these double-speak phrases they never specify, or we’ve “turned a corner,” or there’s a “light at the end of the tunnel,” or other endless nonsensical terminology to justify what will eventually become a 50-year war.

Evidently, the rest of the world doesn’t consider the Taliban and Al-Qaeda to be the threat that we do because we’re shouldering almost the entire burden of the war on terror alone. It’s the US versus world terrorism. We fight the war in Afghanistan, and the rest of the world watches, or ignore it.

If it’s such a threat to world peace and stability as we say, why is it just US?

Since the war in all probability can’t be won, a clear-cut military victory, maybe we should opt for a different kind of plan, a shared stalemate instead.

Here’s what we do. We fight the war in shifts. How many members of the United Nations are there? We take a vote in the UN to share the responsibility. This year the US fights the Afghans. Next year it’s the Chinese turn to fight, then the Japanese, then the Russians, then the following year after the Russians it’s the Italians turn, then the Canadians, then the Australians, then Israel, and so on.

We could fight a 53-year stalemate that way.

The infrastructure, the military bases and landing strips are all there, already in place in Afghanistan. All we have to do is have one team move in, and the former move out.

Rotating shifts.

We could share worldwide the burden of fighting terror, the cost and the blood, rather than the US as usual doing it all because we’re the only country that can serve as the world’s policeman.

Small countries because they’re small could double up. For example, Switzerland, Ghana and Thailand could fight their shared shift in Afghanistan as allies.

Think of the possibilities.

All these countries could hone their fighting skills with hands-on experience and test the weapons we supplied them with. It would be front-line experience, but it would be shared, rather that the US getting fuc’..ed alone.

I earlier said we ought to copy Star Trek and create a multi-national force like the Federation on the TV show to share the burden of fighting world terrorism.

The other option is to divide Afghanistan into 53 zones of occupation and have 53 different countries occupying Afghanistan, with jointly shared occupation of Kabul, the capital city. This would confound our enemies on where and against who they should direct their operations.

For countries that did not want to participate there would be UN approved economic sanctions, you have to pay more for the privilege of not fighting. You have to pay a higher rate to fund the cost. In other words, pay a fine.

If nobody is willing to go along, then maybe it’s a realization that only the US thinks the operation is important.

The problem is our military leaders lack imagination, that’s why they went into the military in the first place. We need creative out-of-the-box thinking at the top. We’re not getting it.
