Scare tactics, dirty tricks used to sway voters — Desperate McCain-Palin camp and the GOP machine “climbing walls” like scared “hissing cockroaches.” The rotting corpse of the Republican Party is stinking up the United States from top to bottom.

G.O.P Repent! The End is Near!In the hours before Election Day, as inevitable as winter, comes an onslaught of dirty tricks — confusing e-mails, disturbing phone calls and insinuating fliers left on doorsteps during the night.

The intent usually is to keep folks from voting or to confuse them, usually through intimidation or misinformation.

Complaints have surfaced in predominantly black neighborhoods of Philadelphia where fliers have circulated, warning voters they could be arrested at the polls if they had unpaid parking tickets or if they had criminal convictions.

In Virginia, bogus fliers with an authentic-looking commonwealth seal have appeared saying fears of high voter turnout had prompted officials to hold two elections — one on Tuesday for Republicans and another on Wednesday for Democrats.

In New Mexico, two Hispanic women sued last week, saying they were harassed by a private investigator working for a Republican lawyer who came to their homes and threatened to call immigration officials, even though they are U.S. citizens.

“He was questioning her status, saying that he needed to see her papers and documents to show that she was a U.S. citizen and was a legitimate voter,” said Guadalupe Bojorquez, speaking for her mother, Dora Escobedo, a 67-year-old Albuquerque resident who speaks only Spanish. “He totally, totally scared the heck out of her.

Laughlin McDonald, who leads the ACLU’s Voting Rights Project, said he has never seen “an election where there was more interest and more voter turnout, and more efforts to suppress registration and turnout. And that has a real impact on minorities.”

Michael Savage: ‘A person on welfare has NO right to vote’

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Michael Savage: “Why should a welfare recipient have the right to vote? They’re only gonna vote themselves a raise” On his radio show, Michael Savage asked: “Do you think a person on welfare has the right to vote? I don’t.” He later added: “Why should a welfare recipient have the right to vote? They’re only gonna vote themselves a raise.

BackGround Info

Michael Savage is a despicable low-life racist piece of constipated dog-shit.

Mr. Savage is one of the hundreds of “right-Wing” Republican nutbags “Hiding Behind RADIO” as “Talk-Show-Hosts.

   Michael Savage and John McCain
Michael Savage and John McCainThis hate-monger has a nationally syndicated radio show (The Savage Nation), reaching millions of Republicans — Hungry For The “HATE Message.”

Mr. Savage, despite being very “Well Educated,” is rabidly sexist, misogynistic, homophobic and anti-immigrant — A sick hateful son-of-a-bitch.

Mr. Savage summarizes his “political philosophy” in three words: borders, language, and culture.

He hates all immigrants, is a supporter of the English-Only Movement, and claims that liberalism and same-sex marriage are degrading American culture.

SIMPLY PUT: Michael Savage is a piece of ‘HOT MORNING’ SHIT in the mode of Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs, Glenn Beck……. the list is long — of anti-Obama right-wing goons poisoning the air-waves of America with “Snake-Venom.

THE IMMIGRANT HATERS

And they are ALL John McCain’s supporters and Friends.

From MediaMatters

During the October 22 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Michael Savage asked: “Do you think a person on welfare has the right to vote? I don’t. Why should a person who is on public assistance maintain the right to vote? Tell me why. Where is it written that they should have the right to vote?” He added: “I support them, and they should have the same vote I do? That would be like saying an infant has the right to vote or an insane person has the right to vote. Why should a welfare recipient have the right to vote? They’re only gonna vote themselves a raise.”

Savage continued: “So if you get a demagogue like [Sen. Barack] Obama coming along, and he says to the welfare recipient, elect me, and I’ll make sure that we have trickle-up poverty, and the rich — so-called, that is anyone who works for a living — will give you more money, more welfare, of course you’re gonna vote for the demagogue Obama. See, if I was in charge, I’d pass a law which says, OK, you can’t support yourself for whatever reason, you’re on welfare, you lose the right to vote.”

Later in the broadcast, Savage again asked: “Do you think that people on welfare should lose the right to vote, as I do? Do you believe that that would be a fundament of democracy that if you lose the right — if you lose the ability to support yourself, for whatever reason, and you seek public assistance, you should, during that period of receiving public assistance, lose the right to vote?” He later stated: “You get back on the self-sufficiency, you get the right to vote. Then we’ll have a fair election in America. Otherwise, it’s all over. We have a communist nation either now or in the very near future.”

The Racism That Consumes Michael Savage — PART 2

As Media Matters for America has documented, on the October 21 broadcast of The War Room with Quinn & Rose, host Jim Quinn, while discussing the history of property rights in the United States, said: “Originally, if you didn’t own land, you didn’t vote, and there was a good reason for it: because those without property will always vote away the property of other people unto themselves, and that’s the beginning of the end.” Quinn added: “But, oh no, that was — that was just too mean-spirited.” Additionally, on the October 2 broadcast of his Minneapolis radio show, Chris Baker said, “I don’t think homeless people should vote. Frankly, in fact, I have to be very honest. I’m not that excited about women voting, to be honest.” Baker later added: “But that’s just me. I’m a pig, and that’s fine. All right? And we’ll see that, I’m sure, on a lame-ass website very soon. But I don’t think hobos ought to vote at all. They’re nuts. And I think that there needs to be a little more care in who votes.”

Talk Radio Network, which syndicates Savage’s show, claims that Savage is heard on more than 350 radio stations. The Savage Nation reaches at least 8.25 million listeners each week, according to Talkers Magazine, making it one of the most listened-to talk radio shows in the nation, behind only The Rush Limbaugh Show and The Sean Hannity Show….[ MORE ]

Republicans already stealing ‘Early Votes’ in West Virginia

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

West Virginia voters say voting machines are switching votes. In several cases, Democratic votes flipped to GOP. An electronic vote for “Barack Obama” flips to “John McCain”.

The West Virginia Gazette reports:

Some early W.Va. voters angry over switched votes — Jackson County touch-screens switched votes, 3 residents say. At least three early voters in Jackson County had a hard time voting for candidates they want to win.

At least three early voters in Jackson County had a hard time voting for candidates they want to win.

Virginia Matheney and Calvin Thomas said touch-screen machines in the county clerk’s office in Ripley GOP Election Fraudkept switching their votes from Democratic to Republican candidates.

“When I touched the screen for Barack Obama, the check mark moved from his box to the box indicating a vote for John McCain,” said Matheney, who lives in Kenna.

When she reported the problem, she said, the poll worker in charge “responded that everything was all right. It was just that the screen was sensitive and I was touching the screen too hard. She instructed me to use only my fingernail.”

Even after she began using her fingernail, Matheney said, the problem persisted.

When she tried to vote for candidates running for two open seats on the Supreme Court, the electronic machine canceled her second vote twice.

On her third try, Matheney managed to cast votes for both Menis Ketchum and Margaret Workman, Democratic candidates for the two open seats.

Calvin Thomas, 81, who retired from Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood in 1983 and now lives in Ripley, experienced the same problem.

“When I pushed Obama, it jumped to McCain. When I went down to governor’s office and punched [Gov. Joe] Manchin, it went to the other dude. When I went to Karen Facemyer [the incumbent Republican state senator], I pushed the Democrat, but it jumped again.

“The rest of them were OK, but the machine sent my votes for those top three offices from the Democrat to the Republican,” Thomas said.

“When I hollered about that, the girl who worked there said, ‘Push it again.’ I pushed Obama again and it stayed there. Then, the machine did the same thing for other candidates.

“Why didn’t she [the polling clerk] tell me before I even used the machine that might happen? And how many people, especially my age, didn’t notice that? …..[MORE]

More W.Va. voters say machines are switching votes — In six cases, Democratic votes flipped to GOP

Three Putnam County voters say electronic voting machines changed their votes from Democrats to Republicans when they cast early ballots last week. WINFIELD, W.Va. — Three Putnam County voters say electronic voting machines changed their votes from Democrats to Republicans when they cast early ballots last week.

This is the second West Virginia county where voters have reported this problem. Last week, three voters in Jackson County told The Charleston Gazette their electronic vote for “Barack Obama” kept flipping to “John McCain”.

In both counties, Republicans are responsible for overseeing elections. Both county clerks said the problem is isolated.

They also blamed voters for not being more careful.

“People make mistakes more than machines,” said Jackson County Clerk Jeff Waybright.

Shelba Ketchum, a 69-year-old nurse retired from Thomas Memorial Hospital, described what happened Friday at the Putnam County Courthouse in Winfield.

“I pushed buttons and they all came up Republican,” she said. “I hit Obama and it switched to McCain. I am really concerned about that. If McCain wins, there was something wrong with the machines.

“I asked them for a printout of my votes,” Ketchum said. “But they said it was in the machine and I could not get it. I did not feel right when I left the courthouse. My son felt the same way.

“I heard from some other people they also had trouble. But no one in there knew how to fix it,” said Ketchum, who is not related to Menis Ketchum, a Democratic Supreme Court candidate.

Ketchum’s son, Chris, said he had the same problem. And Bobbi Oates of Scott Depot said her vote for incumbent Democratic Sen. John D. Rockefeller was switched to GOP opponent Jay Wolfe.

“I touched the one I wanted, Rockefeller, and the machine put a checkmark on the Republican instead,” Oates said of her experience Thursday.

She said she caught the mistake, called over a worker in the county clerk’s office and was able to correct her vote. But she worries other voters may not catch such a mistake.

When asked if she is sure she touched the box for Rockefeller, she said, “I’m absolutely positive.”

Putnam County Clerk Brian Wood said on Saturday that he is upset there are “so many negative stories out there and not enough positive ones. We want people to vote. People need to know the facts.

“But we haven’t had any major issues. We try to explain to voters how the machines work then they come in,” Wood said.

In Putnam County, early voters have the option of asking for either touch-screen machines or optical scan ballots — paper ballots on which people mark in their election choices.

Wood said some voters might not realize that touch-screen voting machines may take a few seconds to record their choices.

Wood said some voters might not realize that touch-screen voting machines may take a few seconds to record their choices.

“The reaction time [on the machines] may be different. And when you hit the screen a second time, it cancels your vote,” Wood said. “When you get in a hurry, if you go to fast and hit it again, you can cancel what you just did.

“The main thing people need to remember is that when you are done voting, make sure everybody you wanted to vote for has a check mark beside them,” Wood said.

Ketchum said, “I am educated person. I know what I wanted. I am anxious to see who wins.

“My son Chris said, ‘Mom, I didn’t vote for the people who came up on that machine. I wanted to go back and vote again. I called the lady at the polls and she said it was my fault because of the way I was punching the buttons.’

“I want a paper ballot. I think it was very bad when they did away with paper ballots. I wish you had something in your hand that is a record of how you voted.

“I never felt that way before. It was early voting, so we went over there to get it over with. We won’t do that again,” Ketchum said.

Last week, three Jackson County residents said they experienced similar problems when they cast early ballots at the county courthouse in Ripley.

Virginia Matheney, one of those voters, said Friday, “When I touched the screen for Barack Obama, the check mark moved from his box to the box indicating a vote for John McCain.”

Retired factory worker Calvin Thomas of Ripley said he experienced the same problem.

“When I pushed Obama, it jumped to McCain. When I went down to governor’s office and punched [Gov. Joe] Manchin, it went to the other dude.

“After I finished, my daughter voted. When she pushed Obama, it went to McCain. It happened to her the same way it happened to me,” Thomas said.

Jackson County Clerk Jeff Waybright, a Republican, said 400 other people voted without reporting any problems.

Wood said he and Waybright are both very careful to guarantee people’s votes are recorded properly.

Wood said, “Voting machines are very reliable. I hate the fact that stories like this are printed. It makes everybody get scared.

“That is not good for anybody. Where the fault is, I don’t know and the voter doesn’t know. There needs to be good communication between the voters and the poll workers.”

Wood offered this advice to voters: “The best way to solve this whole problem is that before you leave the voting booth, make sure on the review screen that everybody you want to vote for is checked.”

More than 1,000 voters from 48 local precincts in Putnam County cast early ballots in the past three days, Wood said. Putnam County has 36,000 registered voters….[MORE]

America being reshaped by second generation children of new immigrants

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Booming “second generation” becoming the mainstream, research suggests. The children of new immigrants “will not only reshape American racial and ethnic relations but define the character of American social, cultural, and political life.” — researchers at Harvard University and City University of New York

By Alex Johnson and Maria Menounos

Children of immigrants reshaping America

The future of America is being forged at Dumbarton Middle School.

With students from 37 countries, Dumbarton, a magnet school in Towson, Md., near Baltimore, reflects how the United States is rapidly being transformed into a polyglot, multicultural society — not by immigrants, but by their children.

Figures from the U.S. Census Bureau paint a clear picture: By as early as 2023, more than half of all children will be members of what are now minority groups, an evolution fueled significantly by a baby boom among recent immigrants. By 2050, they will make up more than 60 percent of all American children.

By 2050, the number of Americans of Hispanic origin will double to comprise a third of the American population. The Asian population is projected to nearly triple, to 9.2 percent of the population. And as those populations mingle, the number of people who identify themselves as being of two or more races will more than triple.

The result will be a United States in which the so-called white majority will, for the first time, be in the minority.

Second Generation Immigrants

In the process, the children of new immigrants “will not only reshape American racial and ethnic relations but define the character of American social, cultural, and political life,” researchers at Harvard University and City University of New York write in “Inheriting the City,” a landmark study of the children of first-generation immigrants to the United States.

Crossing, assimilating differences

Research suggests that the children of immigrants face special challenges and opportunities that prepare them to succeed in American society. In the homes of immigrant parents, it is the children who cross cultural and linguistic barriers, breaking them down while absorbing the best of both worlds.

In a study of children of recent immigrants in Southern California and South Florida, Ruben Rumbaut, a sociology professor at the University of California-Irvine, and Alejandros Portes, director of the Center for Migration and Development at Princeton University, found that the so-called second generation was better equipped than ever to overcome historical hurdles like racism, economic disadvantage and language assimilation.

At only 17, Oz Contreras of Siler City, N.C., has been learned to navigate the adult world at the same time he goes to class and plays soccer at Jordan-Matthews High School.

“My dad has actually never talked to any person for bills,” said Oz, whose Mexican immigrant parents do not speak English. “It’s always been me.”

As a result, Oz has had to grow up more quickly than many of his peers. “We’re more, like, independent, and my parents are there to motivate us but can’t actually help us,” he said.

Paul Cuadros, Oz’s coach, said many of his players are caught in the middle — trying to respect their parents’ roots while growing up American in Siler City, where the immigrant population has grown by 80 percent in just 10 years.

“To be able to live in both worlds and function in them and have an identity in both of them is really important,” Cuadros said.

Children of immigrants grasp the ring

While “some kids have problems” with the duality, Cuadros said, others thrive, mirroring the experience of second-generation children elsewhere.

“By and large, despite their diversity of class and national origins, members of the new second generation in South Florida and Southern California are doing well: performing better academically than their native-parentage peers, graduating from high school and going on to college (where many are still enrolled), speaking accentless English, working hard at their first jobs, taking steps toward independent entrepreneurship, and beginning to form families of their own,” they write in “Immigrant America: A New Portrait.”

Across the board, the second generation is seizing that opportunity:

In the Ivy League, 41 percent of all black freshmen are from African and Caribbean families, who make up only 13 percent of the overall black population, researchers at Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania found.

Among second-generation Hispanics, education is a priority, according to a nationwide study by the Public Policy Institute of California. Only 10 percent of second-generation adults have not graduated from high school, it found, compared with 38 percent of their first-generation parents. That is better than the population as whole, according to the U.S. Education Department, which said 14 percent of all American adults do not have high school diplomas.

While Hispanic immigrants as a whole vote less often than the overall population, the proportion of voters among second-generation Hispanics is rising rapidly, according to a 10-year study of immigrant achievement in California by researchers at the University of Southern California. By 2030, “all other things being equal, the overall share who are active voters would be expected to be substantially above the current level,” indicating a sharp increase in the “influence of the Latino population in the political process,” the researchers predicted.

‘Increasingly … the mainstream’

In “Inheriting the City,” Philip Kasinits of CUNY and three colleagues argue that children of recent immigrants have a unique opportunity to blend traditional and “Americanized” ways, “keeping some elements and discarding others as they go along.”

“This biculturalism in no way prevents their joining the ‘mainstream,’” they found. “Indeed, in their cultural, economic, and social activities, the children of immigrants increasingly are the mainstream.”

Portes — himself an immigrant from Cuba — acknowledged that “some people may lament” America’s evolution into a blended society. But the success of the second generation could kick-start America’s flagging influence in an ever-globalizing world, he said in an interview with NBC News .

“There is no nation that more reflects the globe, the population of the world, than the United States,” he said. “I think it is a source of strength and cultural vigor.”

At Dumbarton Middle School, Principal Nancy Fink said all parents, native and immigrant, should welcome the transformation.

Referring to columnist Thomas L. Friedman’s contention that a globalized society flattens economic and cultural differences, Fink said: “Parents are very aware that their children will be living in a flat world. So the more experiences they have with children who are different than them, the better.”

Warning To McCain & Palin — You Are Responsible For Obama’s Safety!

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

A McCain-Palin Hate-Meeting

Andrew Sullivan, blogging for The Atlantic, writes:

There was always going to be a point of revolt and panic for a core group of Americans who believe that Obama simply cannot be president — because he’s black or liberal or young or relatively new. This is that point. As the polls suggest a strong victory, the Hannity-Limbaugh-Steyn-O’Reilly base are going into shock and extreme rage. McCain and Palin have decided to stoke this rage, to foment it, to encourage paranoid notions that somehow Obama is a “secret” terrorist or Islamist or foreigner. These are base emotions in both sense of the word.

Roswell Beacon is a Georgia (A Bastion of ‘Southern’ Racism) based
magazine — The Message is very clear!

White Fright -- Roswell Beacon is a Georgia based magazine -- The Message is very clear!

But they are also very very dangerous. This is a moment of maximal physical danger for the young Democratic nominee. And McCain is playing with fire. If he really wants to put country first, he will attack Obama on his policies — not on these inflammatory, personal, creepy grounds. This is getting close to the atmosphere stoked by the Israeli far right before the assassination of Rabin.

For God’s sake, McCain, stop it. For once in this campaign, put your country first.

Meanwhile Jerome Corsi, freshly deported from Kenya, where he went to promote his Smear-Book, The Obama Nation — is dipping his fingers up his butt-hole once again.

Report from Media Matters:

On Bill Cunningham’s radio show, Corsi touted dubious “documents” he claims will “prove” Obama “made a pact” with Raila Odinga — Kenya’s Prime Minister.

Note: Cunningham is a vile, racist talk-radio host broadcasting his FILTH from an [Ohio Studio.] A Racist ReTHUGlican Asshole Stinking Up the Ohio Airwaves on a daily basis.

Jerome Corsi claimed on Bill Cunningham’s radio show that he “came out of Kenya” with “documents” proving that Sen. Barack Obama “made a pact with this radical leftist politician Raila Odinga who is perfectly happy to expand Islamic Sharia law in Kenya and have tribal violence to get power.”

But the only “documents” Corsi has thus far provided — purported emails listing the contact in his Senate office to work with Odinga — do not establish that Obama “made a pact” with Odinga, and they “appear not to have been written by a native English speaker,” as Politico’s Ben Smith noted.

In an October 10 post on his Politico blog, Ben Smith wrote of the emails Corsi purportedly obtained in Kenya:

After a bit of a lull, the viral emails and general nuttiness is cresting again, and my favorite “scoop” of the day is Jerome Corsi’s WorldNetDaily report on secret emails between Obama — personally — and a Kenyan political leader.

A small glitch: These emails, [pictured] above, appear not to have been written by a native English speaker, unless ‘I will kindly wish…‘ is a phrase I’m just unfamiliar with. They have the unmistakable flavor of solicitations from dying African princes, who need only your bank account details to make you wealthy beyond measure.

At least the Bush National Guard documents were written in the right language.

TO: John McCain and Sarah Palin

The safety of Barack Obama is in your hands.

If anything happens to Barack Obama, both of you will be held responsible.

I doubt if the justice system, which is badly tilted against BLACKS, would be of any help. I do not need to elaborate, because it is common knowledge.

One more time — If anything were to happen to Barack Obama, it will be the DUTY of every single Black man and woman to seek appropriate and commensurate retribution.

You are lighting a fire you will never be able to extinguish! This time it may not be just a simple riot by a few knuckle-heads. It will be another CIVIL WAR!

We all remember too well — the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, which took place shortly after midnight on June 5, 1968 in Los Angeles, California. Robert F. Kennedy was killed during celebrations of his successful campaign in the Californian primary elections while seeking the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.

Your Town-Hall HATERS, may be angry, very angry, ….. but DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE FURY SIMMERING WITHIN EVERY BLACK MAN AND WOMAN IN THIS COUNTRY — While you (McCain) and Palin are stroking the racism wired into the ANIMALS you call your BASE.
