If and when McCain loses, what’s next for Sarah Palin?

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Her name will become synonymous with the anti-intellectual, intolerant, theocratic, base of the former GOP. She will be the candidate of choice for those who do not read, those who still look under their beds for communists at night, those who wish to limit the freedoms that most of America wants. — James from Chuckey, Tennessee.

FROM CNN’s Jack Cafferty:

Former Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger — a Republican and supporter of John McCain — told national public radio yesterday that Alaska governor Sarah Palin is not prepared to take over the job of President if she had to. He said, “I devoutly hope that [she] would never be tested.

But the fact is that if some people in the Republican Party get their way, she could be tested one day. Should John McCain lose the race for the White House, you can bet your last dollar this moose huntin’, gun totin’, pro-life hockey mom will not fade from the political spotlight. She’s a huge hit with a group of social conservatives who embrace her values and see her as a fresh face for a divided party… to them, a 2012 Palin run for President may be on the horizon.

Jack Cafferty: Palin a mistake?

But a lot of other people feel quite differently. Sarah Palin quickly became a national joke for her lack of experience, failure to grasp the issues and inability to handle herself with the media — especially those awful interviews she did with Katie Couric. Recently she’s gone off script and off message on the campaign, angering several of McCain ’s campaign advisers. She’s been called everything from a “diva” to a “whack job,” and yet through it all she remains remarkably unphased.

In an interview this week on ABC’s 20-20, Palin said, “I’m not doin’ this for naught.” Yet another pithy utterance.

Here’s my question to you: If John McCain loses, what’s next for Sarah Palin?

Some Answers:

Anne from Seattle, Washington writes: With that pushy personality, we will unfortunately see more of her. I won’t be watching though. And if the Republicans see her as part of their future, I see the U.S. as a one party system. My wish is that she’d spend her life gazing at Russia quietly, very quietly.

Sherry from Pennsylvania writes: She will go back to Alaska, a state that we in the lower 48 should stop casting such a dim view on, and she will continue to govern the energy rich state, be herself, and a mom. There is no job in the world more important than being a good parent. I wish everyone would give her a break and stop demonizing her.

Dennis from Cleveland, Ohio writes: Hopefully, obscurity!

James from Chuckey, Tennessee writes: Her name will become synonymous with the anti-intellectual, intolerant, theocratic, base of the former GOP. She will be the candidate of choice for those who do not read, those who still look under their beds for communists at night, those who wish to limit the freedoms that most of America wants. She will hopefully be required to repay the state of Alaska for flying her family around as if they were royalty.

Roy from Chicago writes: With her comedic delivery, she is well suited to situation comedies. How about “Third Rock from Russia”? Political mother of pregnant teenager with snowmobiling husband deals with the trials and tribulations of Alaskan life in the midst of a hilarious impeachment!

Jeff writes: What’s next for Princess Palin? Nothing.

Toni writes: She and Joe the Plumber can hook up and get a reality TV show on MTV.

Sarah Palin’s Wardrobe Disconnect — Fashion Columnist Robin Givhan asks how a campaign can portray Gov. Sarah Palin as a no-frills hockey mom while spending a jaw-dropping sum at Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Barneys to outfit her… [See Gallery Here]

By — Derek Kravitz

Gov. Sarah Palin arrives for a campaign stop in Bangor, Maine, on Oct. 16, 2008. From head to toe, every piece of clothing worn by Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, has been picked at and prodded, from her rim-less $375 Kawasaki glasses to her red open-toed Naughty Monkey-brand shoes.

But scrutiny of her fashion sense reached to a new level after Politico reported yesterday that the Republican National Committee spent some $150,000 on high-end clothes and accessories for Palin and her family.

The expenditures, listed in a monthly financial disclosure filing with the Federal Elections Commission, included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for $49,425.74 and a $75,062.63 tab at a Neiman Marcus store in Minneapolis.

(The pricey clothes didn’t impress The Post’s Robin Givhan, who wrote in her “On Culture” column last month that Palin’s style was “exceptionally ordinary…Her clothes are unpretentious, but they are also unremarkable.” Givhan now calls the spending “plain stupid.“) — [MORE]

Sarah Palin spent more on clothes in one day than Joe the Plumber earns in 3+ years — does this make her a simple small town girl,…a middle class hockey mom? NOPE! Far from it. She his just another wicked Republican hypocrite…..a GOON!

Republican politicians — the custodians of sexual morality, friends of GOD, protectors of peasants and plumbers of “small-town” America.

….Hilarious!!!!

BobboSphere from DailyKos enlightens:

The GOP hardcore base embrace bigots and liars like McCain/Palin because in the darkness of their own souls they hold those same values. As individuals they are too dishonest to get up and admit that in public. McCain/Palin gives them permission to feel good about their own bigotry and small-mindedness. Armed with a permission slip from two major political candidates, they can give full throat to their own worst instincts. They are cowards and if they had any sense of decency they would feel a deep sense of shame and would come begging for our forgiveness.

Planned Parenthood on Obama’s Side

From Robert Greenwald:

We have to spread the truth about McCain ourselves because it’s clear the corporate media won’t. NOW. FAST. FURIOUS. EVERYWHERE.

We are in the two-minute drill with no timeouts. No more sitting on the sidelines and allowing the McCain campaign to rack up points with countless distortions.

Watch the video (above) and forward it to everyone you know.

As we’ve seen with The Real McCain 2 (nearly 4.5 million views and counting!), once the truth gets out, it’s hard to stop. In the last few days we have seen a disgusting descent into the worst of sleazy smear politics. We need to spread the facts and the truth. Send this to your friends and relations, especially if they are unsure or undecided — they’re more willing to believe you than a talking head!

1. Blizzard of Lies,” says PAUL KRUGMAN: “Did you hear about how Barack Obama wants to have sex education in kindergarten, and called Sarah Palin a pig?” “Did you hear about how Ms. Palin told Congress, ‘Thanks, but no thanks‘ when it wanted to buy Alaska a Bridge to Nowhere?” These stories have two things in common: they’re all claims recently made by the McCain campaign — and they’re all out-and-out lies. ….[ more ]
