Gewoonlijk heeft dit een negatieve connotatie, heel wat baby worden mamas gezien zoals het wanhopige, gouden graven, emotioneel verhongerde, shady vrouwen die een baby uit wrok of hadden om een mens te houden. Soms kunnen zij als dit wegens gemiste kindersteun betalingen, onvervulde beloften door de vader, of geschikt geslacht door de vader handelen. Één van beiden of allebei kan in om het even welke situatie bestaan.“
Definitie van „Mama van de Baby“ van UrbanDictionary.Com: „Mama van de baby“ is nietjes van Jerry Springer en de programma's van Maury Povich, maar de termijn wordt zelden gehoord in de beleefde maatschappij.
Ik was geschokt en verbolgen toen het Nieuws van de Vos naar Michelle Obama als de babymama van Obama in grafisch verwees:

This is blatant racism on the part of Fox News, they would never refer to John McCain’s wife as a baby mama.
Michelle Obama is a very accomplished professional with a law degree from Harvard Law school., but Fox News dismissed her as a baby mama. Is Fox News intimidated by a highly educated, brilliant, attractive and accomplished black woman?
It’s an insult to refer to Michelle as a baby mama, she is great asset to her husband. Michelle is a great speaker in her own right, and her husband relies on her for advice.
