Patriotism — The Last Refuge of a Desperate, Racist, Bigoted, Lying, LAZY Republican!

Flat Out Lies: Republican Candidates Desperate To Find New LIES About President Obama

The late militant Khalid Abdul Mohammed once said: “When white folks (Republicans) can’t defeat you, they’ll always find some Negro, some boot-licking, butt-licking, bamboozled, half-baked, half-fried, sissified, punkified, pasteurized, homogenized Nigger that they can trot out in front of you.”

The latest example is of course — GOP shit-pail carrier Uncle Herman [69-69-69] Cain — the serial “Grope-A-Blonde-Dame” sexual artist.

Similarly, when Republicans can’t beat you on issues they resort to the time-tested Southern Strategydog whistling to their rabidly racist base — with chest thumps and mouthings of all things PATRIOTIC.

————————————-

Addressing last weekend’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference in Hawaii, Obama said: “…we’ve(USA) been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades…..” [ SEE VIDEOS BELOW FOR DETAILS ]

That set off a firestorm of lies, smears and patriotic chest thumpings:

“Can you believe that? That’s what our president thinks is wrong with America? That Americans are lazy?” Incompetent secessionist Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry said in a campaign ad released Wednesday. “That’s pathetic.” [ SEE VIDEO BELOW ]

And then they all piled on — like hungry lactating hyenas — completely distorting Obama’s statements for their selfish needs — obviously another attempt to paint Barack Obama as — un-American….an exotic foreigner raised partly in Indonesia with a Muslim middle name, married to a woman who said that only her husband’s political achievements have made her “proud” of her country, a cosmopolitan elitist too snooty to wear a flag pin in his lapel or clasp his hand to his breast during the national anthem.

Yes, that’s the GOP — petty, disrespectful and utterly racist. The same party of heartless hoodlums who recently booed an active duty U.S. soldier because he is gay and cheered the deaths of executed prisoners and the uninsured alike. In the Republican party — demonizing gays, blacks, minorities, immigrants, Muslims, women …practically anything to do with the “other” people — is the centerpiece of their despicable politics. A politics of haters — of America and Americans!

What’s patriotic about that kind of shit?

Why Glenn Beck’s Bad Novel, ‘The Overton Window’ — Is a Must Read

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

   By: John Avlon
John AvlonWith its mix of patriotism, fear, self-help, and conspiracy theory, the TV personality’s new novel, The Overton Window, is essential reading to understand the mind of the Wingnuts says John Avlon.

It turns out that the beach-read potboiler just might be the perfect medium for Glenn Beck’s patented mix of paranoia, patriotism, conspiracy theories, and self-help philosophy. Liberated from the obligations of literal truth, Beck is free to mix fact and faction into a genre he calls “faction”–appropriate because it is designed to divide the country into “us” against “them,” pitting heroic Beck-ian true believers in a life-or-death struggle against evil elitists and the sheeple who follow them.

The newly released The Overton Window is not just a bad book; it is an instructively bad book because it offers a complete color-by-numbers picture of the contemporary Wingnut psyche. It also answers the question of whether Beck fully appreciates the forces he’s playing with and the audiences he is catering to–the book is essentially a love letter to any group that might have seen themselves as implicated in the Department of Homeland Security’s report about the rise of extremism from the far-right in the age of Obama.

“The public has lost their courage to believe. They have given up on their ability to think. They can no longer even form opinions.”

In fact, a recasting of that document is a featured irritant in the introduction, portraying the government as targeting otherwise peaceful citizens who they characterize as “militant anti-abortion or pro-life organizers,” “home schoolers,” “Minutemen,” “Tea Partiers,” “militia organizations,” “tax resisters,” “patriot movement” members, “gun rights activists,” and “9/11 Truthers”–to name just a few of the groups unjustly clustered under the term “Constitutionalists.” The specter of FEMA concentration camps, martial law, gun seizures, and even vaccination conspiracies make unapologetic appearances as well.

The Overton WindowThe heroic resistance group in the book is called “the Founders’ Keepers,” an echo of the Hatriot group “the Oath Keepers.” But in a Beckian bob and weave, the first time the reader meets them is amid a diverse crowd in a Tribeca bar containing every creed and color, complete with pot smoking and echoes of 60s rebellion rekindled in a new direction. Their communal bookshelf combines the John Birch Society with Saul Alinsky, but their rhetoric is pure militia: “We’ve done everything that could be done to avoid the storm that’s coming. Our voices have not been heard. Time for simply hoping for change and praying for peace is gone. If our government won’t answer our appeals and do what’s right, if they’ve forsaken their oath to defend the constitution then an appeal to arms and the grace to God almighty is all they’ve left us?If not now, when!…Will we be stronger when they’ve taken our guns away when a cop or a paid government thug is standing on every corner enforcing the curfew? No! I say if war is inevitable then let it come on our terms.” And that’s a hero’s battle cry.

The title of the book–The Overton Window–is itself a metaphor for the “slippery slope”, the animating idea behind much of the paranoid style in American politics–namely that any ground given from the far-right to the center represents a subtle but intentional subversion of our constitutional republic. This is the logic Beck uses to preach about the “cancer of progressivism” beginning with Woodrow Wilson and the pointy-headed elites who advised him–a rant which is woven throughout the narrative, complete with quotes from the semi-obscure books which currently interest him. But now in fictional form, he gets to illustrate the ultimate danger of elitist progressive plans for America–in this case, false flag operations and nuclear weapons designed to destroy individual liberty from within and replace it with tyranny.

The book is an earnest call to arms for what is portrayed as the heroic resistance to a corrupt American government. Beck is careful to avoid any direct mention of Obama, making his case that our country is suffering from bi-partisan rot, but its hard not to miss ripped-from-the-headlines references, from bailouts and bankruptcy to head nods toward Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and adulterous Senator John Ensign–even a sleazy cameo by former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer. One of the recurring riffs is an implicit dig at the Obama campaign comment about “transforming the United States”–as one character notes, “transformation is simply a nice way of saying that you don’t like something,” i.e., the President is hostile to the founding principles of the United States. Nonetheless, the fundamentally transformative idea advocated by Tom Paine–”we have it in our power to begin the world over again”–is the book’s mantra, along with the benign Ben Franklin litany of “Faith, Hope, and Charity,” which is somehow transformed into an underground partisan appeal. The book’s online advertising uses the same bait, promising a life of purpose for the self-selecting (and paying) few: “Click here to change the world.”

The book is either an irony free zone or deeply self-revealing, with digs at unlawful interrogations and media manipulation (“Politics and war, it’s all social psychology and maybe it always has been. Look at the PR push that got the American people behind going back to war with Iraq in 2003″). Beck acknowledges the source of his political influence when he has one character say, “Fear has been a swing factor in party politics for as long as I can remember.”

But perhaps the most revealing rant comes from the mouth of the book’s arch villain, a nightmarish PR guru who might as well be speaking on Beck’s behalf: “The public has lost their courage to believe. They have given up on their ability to think. They can no longer even form opinions. They absorb opinions sitting slack jawed in front of their televisions. Their thoughts are manufactured by people like me?We leverage their hopes and feed their fears. Once they believe, they are ours forever.”

Glenn Beck has transformed himself into a multi-media empire, and–like it or not–he is a real thought leader among conservative populists in the United States today. The apex of his influence might be over–his ratings slipped almost 30% from January to April 2010 alone–but he is betting that his hardcore of support will not desert him. The book is left primed for future installments that the faithful will no doubt buy in bulk. Beck has created an army of true-believers and dwindling but dedicated consumers, but even he may be coming concerned with the ambitions of the crazies among them. Before an alter-ego guru goes up in smoke, he frightfully faces the lunatic fringe he has inspired, marveling at “the seamless transition each managed to place between the sane and the insane thing that they have said.” With a deep breath, he reflects with more than a hint of regret, “If guys like these can agree with anything I say, then I’ve been saying something wrong.” Exactly.

10 Reasons Why Republicans Seldom Serve in the Military

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

   Columnist – John Sammon
Columnist - John Sammon. Click to view larger picture. One of the paradoxes of the last fifty years is that members of the Republican Party, the ultra right of which champions both morality and patriotism, almost never serve in the military. John McCain is a rare exception. Since criticizing others for lacking patriotism is a center pillar activity of the far right, why do the American people not fault the party for its almost total no-show in the military service?

Isn’t backing war when you yourself won’t serve in one, isn’t that a form of hypocrisy?

Democrats in Congress have out-served Republicans in the military almost two to one. Even little Teddy Kennedy with all his millions served in the Navy.

Rush Limbaugh and Romney and Newt and all the rest of them never served. Since patriotism is so important to them, why do they never serve? In fairness to Palin, she did hint that she had some front line experience because she lived in Alaska which is near Russia.

Here are 10 reasons why so few Republicans show up at the military induction center.

1.   World War Two was the last white war. A war fought with a large white participation. Korea saw a growth in minority participation, but by the time of Vietnam, class distinctions had grown, and war was mainly fought by a collection of white trash southern hillbillies, whites on the run from the law in the States, and blacks and Mexicans. War became a half-way house for those perceived as losers, while increasing numbers of whites decided to spend their time going to college on student deferments and amassing cash in lucrative careers.

2.   Many white right-wingers, while they won’t admit it, don’t like blacks because they consider them to be lowly niggers. They don’t want to eat next to one in the mess hall, and certainly not sleep under one in a bunk bed.

3.   Most right wing successful politicians and pundits got where they are because they focused on the prize, advancing themselves. There are some Democrats like this, Slick Willy Clinton for example. It takes a lot of work to achieve a position in Congress or on a network radio hookup. They correctly saw the service as a counterproductive waste of time, as well as a sucker game. However, they like others to fight wars.

4.   John Wayne is their hero. He was a slacker from World War Two. His own former wife said he became an ultra conservative, advising young men to go to war in Vietnam, because he felt shame that he missed WW2. While old Clark Gable flew combat missions over Germany and liberal Henry Fonda sat on a ship in the Pacific, Duke lived the sweet life in Hollywood. Congress gave him a medal for it.

5.   Many white, ultra conservatives are pudgy short men with medical problems which preclude them from fighting. They like to talk about it more than do it.

6.   George Will, the intelligent, urbane columnist of the right wing, when asked why he didn’t serve, answered vaguely that the draft hadn’t started when he was pursuing a Master’s Degree in the early 1960s. In other words, I won’t go in unless I’m forced to. In fairness to George, he does look like he might be raped by other recruits in Basic Training.

7.   Bland mess hall food doesn’t appeal to conservatives, many of whom are overweight (see number 5 above).

8.   Conservatives have a secret agenda that they don’t believe enough in the wars they support to take part themselves. And they don’t want their children to either. This was neatly summed up to me in person one time years ago when a conservative said to me, “I’m not laying my life down for a bunch of gooks.

9.   Conservatives, especially lately, are too busy pursuing extramarital affairs to bother with service to their country.

10.   Conservatives are hypocrites (all of the above).

Republicans Discover Black People

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

   Columnist – John Sammon
Columnist - John Sammon. Click to view larger picture.Wait a minute! Hold your horses. Stop the presses!

The Republicans elected an African American, Michael Steele, as their new chairman?

Their new PARTY CHAIR!!!!!

The Republicans have decided to get on the band wagon because of what happened in November? They’ve suddenly figured out that black people are cool? Not just as waiters, butlers, or porters?

Or Amos and Andy to laugh at on TV? (Spoken in a mocking racist dialect ? “If da Kingfish be as slow as Sapphire’s mother…”).

The party of Rush, Newt, George (forget George. He’s gone. Throw a shoe at George), the party of Sarah….appointing a black?

The party of white religious fanatics? The party of patriotism, none of whom ever served in the military. The party of gay-haters, many of whom themselves are secretly gay (or want to be).

The party that for the past fifty years has opposed every bit of social legislation to guarantee fairness under the Constitution, from de-segregation in schools, to equal housing and employment?

The party that never lifted a finger to oppose racism in this country? The party that if it had its way, blacks would still be sitting on the back of a bus?

And no I don’t mean to mention Lisa Rice, the former incompetent foreign secretary token Bush picked hoping to dispel the true notion that the Republican Party is racist.

Can this be true? How could this happen? Jerry Falwell must be spinning in his grave.

They’re turning to black people to save their bacon because their world, the world of Limbaugh and Jerry F., crashed around their ears.

Americans proved they’ll tolerate an illegal immoral war, but not a diminution in their wallets. Why, you’d almost get the idea from the past eight years that God is not a Republican.

They’ve discovered blacks are cool?

I’ve got one better. We can do better. I’ve got an idea how you Republicans can do better the next time around. Are you ready for this? Paint Sarah Palin black. Huh? Huh? What’ya think?

Put Sarah Plain in blackface, like those old minstrel shows, or like Al Jolson when he sang “Mammy, Mammy, it’s your little boy, I’m home from Alabamy. Lay on those eggs and hammy. Mammy!”

The Republicans. Hey hey! You’ve got to give it to ‘em. They’re pretty shrewd. They weren’t born just yesterday. How long did it take them to wake up after Civil War Reconstruction? Let’s see. They finally woke up. Last November.

Hmmm! They said. This new black thing here. This must be a new fad. Maybe them communist-inspired liberals have something here. Maybe we ought to get into this. No matter who we pick, we can still manage ‘em, so they support a white God, and don’t move into our exclusive gated neighborhoods, and don’t go to our kid’s private school.

Let’s paint Sarah Plain black. Think of how many votes she’ll get then. She may not win her home state of Alaska, but who cares. They’ve got a volcano up there ready to blow and they deserve it for giving us Palin in the first place.

She could come out wearing a top hat and with white gloves on and sing, “Me, and my shadow…..walking down the avenue…. I’d walk a million miles….for one of your smiles….”

McCain picked Palin for no other reason than she was a woman and might get him women votes. That didn’t work.

But what if Palin was black? She’d be a double threat. She could still promote war and tax cuts for the rich and the oil companies, and all the rest of the fat cats, just like before.

Think it over Sarah.

Olbermann: Divisive politics is anti-American. GOP ticket’s willingness to say anything to win ultimately damages America.

In a Special Comment, Keith Olbermann lists examples of hateful, divisive politics from the right that actually do more to undermine America than the bogus accusations of anti-Americanism being leveled against Barack Obama.
