New York Post Faces Public Outrage

CaffertyFile: U.S. a “nation of cowards” when it comes to race?

Civil Rights March on Washington

A Recent Racist Cartoon By The New York Post

Some Comments:

Tom from Philadelphia writes: Who let the black man in on closed-door racism? We have gone from overt, in-your-face racism, to closed-door, let-me-make-sure-who-I-am-talking-to racism. Overall, on the outside it’s going away. But in the hearts and minds of many and in private, it’s the same as it always was. He is bold and brave to confront it. Good job.

Terry, Chandler from Arizona writes: I’m a 60 year old white dude and a former bigot. AG Holder is 100 percent right on. We will continue to be cowards untill a time when we can all speak openly about all racial problems and differences.

Julie writes: I think he wants to get our minds off of the financial crisis

Ken in Pinon Hills, California writes: Millions of cowards voted for a black president.

Bruce, from St. Paul, Minnesota writes: In my lifetime, I have seen racism become more and more covert over time. There is less name calling, but still job applications are disregarded, law-abiding drivers are pulled over, and much, much more. I think to label this behavior as cowardly is exactly right. To deny or rationalize it is even worse.

Chryssa from Boise, Idaho writes: I believe Holder’s generation is a bunch of cowards. Most of us born after 1965 could care less about another person’s skin color.

Marjorie Lominy of Jorie, New York writes: I am happy to report that we have 69 millions “non cowards” who pulled the lever for President Obama.

Tommy form Alabama: Yeah, pretty much. As a 51 year old man, I do have one black friend and one gay friend. I think that’s pretty radical for a born and raised Alabamaian.

Rush Limbaugh: ‘Obama is scared of me’ — Maybe Rush thinks Obama is a CHEESEBURGER!

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

Overheard: Dave Wrote: “Rush, the only thing scared of you are cheeseburgers.”

CNN: Radio host Rush Limbaugh said Monday that President Obama is “frightened of me.”

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

Limbaugh’s comments followed reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, who had said on air he wanted the new president to fail.

“Now this is the great unifier,” he told listeners Monday. “This is the man who’s going to unify everybody and usher in a new era of bipartisanship and love.”

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs gave reporters the administration’s latest message to Limbaugh at Monday’s press briefing: “Tell him I said, ‘Hi,’” he joked.

Rob Wrote: Rush Limbaugh is nothing but a self-serving huckster of feculent odium and no one is frightened of him. What IS truly frightening though is the fact that he has a large audience of like-minded “fans“.

The man can’t even control the amount of food that goes in his mouth on a daily basis but he wants to tell everyone how to run our Country. If he were ever in a position of power he would sell us all into slavery for a 1/2 gallon of ice cream.

Bush warns GOP on Immigration Reform: Stop the Xenophobia or you will drown in your ‘Nativist Hate!’

Bush Tells His Party To Be ‘Open-Minded’ — President Pushes Immigration Reform

By Perry Bacon Jr.

President Bush called for a “compassionate” Republican Party and warned against the GOP becoming “anti-immigrant” in one of his last interviews as president, defending his vision of the party, which has become unpopular among some Republicans.

“It’s very important for our party not to narrow its focus, not to become so inward-looking that we drive people away from a philosophy that is compassionate and decent,” the president said in an interview on “Fox News Sunday” that was aired yesterday. “We shouldn’t have litmus tests as to whether or not you can be a Republican. And we should be open-minded about big issues like immigration reform, because if we’re viewed as anti-somebody — in other words, if the party is viewed as anti-immigrant — then another fellow may say, ‘Well, if they’re against the immigrant, they may be against me.’ ”

Bush, when asked about how the GOP could avoid the kind of losses it suffered in the 2008 election — it lost the presidency and several seats in the House and Senate — said, “I think that we shouldn’t change our philosophy.” But he added: “We may want to change our message. . . . We need a new group of leaders.” — [ READ MORE ]

ReTHUGlican ‘TadPole’ Ann ‘Bony Ass’ Coulter — Out With New Book Packed With Falsehoods

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

From Media Matters:

1. Guilty: Coulter’s latest book filled with falsehoods — Media Matters has examined a copy of Ann Coulter’s new book, Guilty: Liberal “Victims” and Their Assault on America, and presents a sampling of the book’s numerous falsehoods. These falsehoods include her defense of claims made against Sen. John Kerry by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth; her assertion that “Fox News has never been caught promoting a fraud“; and her claim that President-elect Barack Obama was referring to Gov. Sarah Palin when he said “you know, you can put lipstick on a pig; it’s still a pig.

In the book which Media Matters obtained in advance of the book’s release, Coulter repeatedly misrepresents the sources she cites. She also makes numerous inflammatory and offensive comments in Guilty. [ Read More ]

Ann Coulter -- Nuke Korea

2. Is NBC going to help Coulter sell this book? — NBC has repeatedly provided Ann Coulter a platform to spew her inflammatory rhetoric even as NBC-affiliated hosts and anchors have expressed disapproval of her statements or criticized the media for promoting her. Coulter’s latest book, Guilty, is rife with such inflammatory comments, including saying that the Democratic primaries were a contest of “Who’s the Biggest Pussy?“; calling children whose parents divorce “future strippers” in a chapter titled “Victim of a Crime? Thank a Single Mother“; and calling former White House press secretary Scott McClellan “retarded.” Nevertheless, Coulter has announced that she is scheduled to appear on Today on January 6. Conservative Terrorists — Republican HATE RADIO RoundUp

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Racist conservative radio hosts continue to promote discredited claim that Obama has yet to prove he was born in the U.S. — that President-elect Barack Obama has not produced a valid birth certificate and is not eligible for the presidency because he is not a natural-born citizen.

Radio hosts Brian Sussman, Mark Davis, Lars Larson, Bob Grant, Jim Quinn, and Rose Tennent repeated the discredited claim that President-elect Barack Obama has not produced a valid birth certificate and is not eligible for the presidency because he is not a natural-born citizen.

In fact, the Obama campaign posted a copy of Obama’s birth certificate on its Fight the Smears website and reportedly provided the original to FactCheck.org, whose staff concluded that it “meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship.”

A Hawaii Health Department official also reportedly confirmed that the birth certificate Obama’s campaign posted is valid.

Savage on the Mumbai attacks: “Should the tribal areas in Pakistan be wiped out and the rats killed in there once and for all?”

Discussing the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India, Michael Savage said: “Should the tribal areas of Pakistan be wiped out and the rats killed in there once and for all?

Should we nuke the tribal areas in Pakistan’s wild-man region and wipe out the terrorists once and for all?”

Savage later added: “What the heck do we have nuclear weapons for? What are tactical nuclear weapons for but to wipe out an enemy? The enemy lives there — kill them and their families, and show them that the terror they inflict on the West will come home to roost and will be inflicted on them.”

Savage Lies: The Half-Truths, Distortions and Outright Lies of a Right-Wing Blowhard

Savage Lies: The Half-Truths, Distortions and Outright Lies of a Right-Wing BlowhardEditorial Reviews

Product Description: Radio talk show host and author Michael Savage has for years been given free rein to distort facts, cherrypick information and just plain lie in supporting his radical conservative opinions.

Nowhere is this more apparent than in the three books Savage considers his “legacy.

But now, award-winning journalist Bill Bowman puts the truth to Savage’s lies, revealing Savage’s rampant egotism, sloppy research and willingness to spin “facts” out of whole cloth.

This is not an attack on Savage’s opinions. It is, however, a long-overdue fact checking of some of the bedrock arguments Savage uses to substantiate those opinions.

About the Author: Bill Bowman is a journalist with more than 20 years’ experience covering issues on the local, state and national levels. His reporting has led to judicial findings of ethical violations and influence peddling on the part of local officials, to the expansion of financial reporting requirements of New Jersey Superior, Supreme and Tax Court judges and to the establishment of a first-in-the-nation program that provided life-saving thermal imaging cameras to every fire department and fire academy in New Jersey.
