As the actual United States census is getting under way, black Uncle-TomMichael Steele, has designed a mailing to resemble the official census documents and to deceive recipients as to its true origins.
Politico: Officials of both parties are sharply criticizing a fundraising mailing from Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele they say could be confused with official correspondence regarding this year?s census.
The fundraising letter comes in the form of a “survey,” a frequently used device for partisan fundraising, but this one has a twist: Calling itself the “Congressional District Census,” the letter comes in an envelope starkly printed with the words, “DO NOT DESTROY OFFICIAL DOCUMENT” and describes itself, on the outside of the envelope, as a “census document.”
“Strengthening our party for the 2010 elections is going to take a massive grass-roots effort all across America,” Steele writes in a letter that blends official-sounding language, partisan calls to arms, and requests for between $25 and $500. “That is why I have authorized a census to be conducted for every congressional district in the country.” [ READ MORE ]

“I tell them to get a life,” Steele told ABC News Radio. “I’m looking them in the eye and say, ‘I’ve had enough of it. If you don’t want me in the job, fire me. But until then, shut up. Get with the program or get out of the way.’ ”
WAPO Reports: Steele appeared on a St. Louis radio station Thursday and offered a blistering critique of his Republican critics, going beyond his much-quoted remarks to ABC News Radio. When McGraw Milhaven of KTRS Radio asked Steele if he was a “detriment” to Republican fundraising, Steele said: “I am in this chair. If they want it, take it from me. Until then, shut up, step back and get in the game and help us win — and stop the back-biting and the name-calling and the finger-pointing.”
Steele went on to tell Milhaven: “I hope you play this tape over and over again because these folks are the problem, not the solution. Get with the program. I’m the chairman. Deal with it.”
Steele, who has been making regular television appearances, said Monday that he did not believe Republicans could win back their congressional majorities in 2010. “Not this year,” Steele told Fox News Channel, saying he was just beginning to look at races, even though the party has been recruiting candidates for many months.
The Republican leaning Washington Times reported Thursday that some prominent party fundraisers are withholding donations from the RNC because of unhappiness with Steele.
Elsewhere, Steele had this to say: “I didn’t ask for, I didn’t seek this job, I didn’t ask for it,” Steele told “Unwashed and Failed Right-Wing Comedian,” Dennis Miller, yesterday. “It wasn’t part of my, you know, chartered course in life to wind up as chairman of the [Republican National Committee]. You know, there was a convergence of moments here.”
