Great Britain ruled parts of the Caribbean twice as long in duration as she ruled much of Africa. حكمت بريطانيا العظمى اجزاء من منطقة البحر الكاريبي في ضعف مدة طويلة لانها حكمت جزء كبير من افريقيا.

That there is an English-speaking power mightier than Britain (the United States) also helped to dwarf Britain’s cultural role in promoting Anglo-Saxon culture. ان ثمة الناطقه بالانكليزية السلطة اعظم من بريطانيا (الولايات المتحدة) ساعد ايضا على قزم بريطانيا الثقافيه دوره في تعزيز ثقافة الانغلوساكسوني.

The French language, on the other hand, is on the defensive against the devastating competition of Anglo-American cultural and linguistic expansionism. اللغة الفرنسية ، ومن ناحية اخرى ، على دفاعية ضد من المنافسة المدمره الامريكية البريطانية التوسعيه والثقافيه واللغويه. There is no French-speaking super power the equivalent of the United States. لا يوجد اي الناطقه بالفرنسيه ما يعادل قوة عظمى للولايات المتحدة. France tries to play the cultural roles of both Britain and the United States. فرنسا تحاول ان تلعب دور كل من الثقافة وبريطانيا والولايات المتحدة.

But the United States is itself another reason British influence in the Caribbean continues to decline. ولكن الولايات المتحدة وهناك سبب آخر هو في حد ذاته النفوذ البريطاني في منطقة البحر الكاريبي يستمر فى التدهور. There was a time when West Indians and Africans asked themselves whether being educated in the US was a more radicalising experience than being educated in Great Britain. وكان هناك وقت كانت فيه الغرب والهنود والافارقه انفسهم سأل ما اذا كان يجري تعليمه في الولايات المتحدة كانت اكثر خبرة من radicalising يجري تعليمه في بريطانيا العظمى.

In the first half of the 20th Century the evidence seemed to support that proposition. فى النصف الاول من القرن العشرين ، ويبدو ان الادله لدعم هذا الاقتراح. Also contributing to this radicalisation was African and Caribbean intermingling with Black Americans and being exposed to a more intense pan-African experience. كما تساهم هذه radicalisation الافريقيه ومنطقة البحر الكاريبى وكان الاختلاط مع الامريكيين السود ويتعرض لحال اكثر كثافه التجربه لعموم افريقيا. Middle class Caribbean Blacks could go either way when highly educated. الطبقة الوسطى السود في الكاريبي قد تخرج عن هذا الاتجاه أو ذاك عند المتعلمين تعليما عاليا. They could move more decisively to the left (going even Marxist) or become more eloquent defenders of the capitalist status quo. انها يمكن ان تتحرك بمزيد من الحسم الى اليسار (الذهاب حتى الماركسي) او تصبح اكثر بليغة الرأسمالي من المدافعين عن الوضع القائم.
